Keep your doctor informed of your pain levels, and especially any new symptoms.

Pain after the surgery is common, especially if it's coupled with a hiatal hernia repair. Quite often this exhibits as pain when taking a deep breath.

Consistent, worsening pain that radiates through to your back, inability to take a breath (not pain, but inability), vomiting, and high fever are the things to watch for; if you experience those symptoms, you need to rush to the doctor since you may have a staple line leak. But my guess is that you're just experiencing the normal pain from a VSG plus hernia repair.

It will get better!

Edit: I should mention that staying mobile (get up and walk around as much as you can) and sipping Water as much as possible will help you recover MUCH quicker.

Thanks guys for the support and information. The dr is releasing me and wants me to follow up in two weeks. He's really confident that this pain stems from the hernia and I was dry heaving from that morphine drip. Uuuhhhhhh I'm so sore in my chest area even my jaw and teeth hurt. He left me some pain meds and some pepsid or something. Can't wait to get home, shower and get in my own bed

I dry heaved just after waking up too. That'll do a number on your chest muscles too!! I wouldn't be surprised if alot of your chest pain is from that too. Stay on your pain meds. That should help with that too. Yay for you to be sleeved!!!!

I was sleeved on the 13th. I had chest pain post op so bad I thought I was having a heart attack. Turned out that it was some gas bubbles and the hernia repair. I came home yesterday and am doing well except for a decent amount of pain in my largest incision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
