I'm wondering, based on comments in another thread, how we all heard about the band?

Forgot to say where I heard - my DH's aunt had a friend who got one. He was researching having a gastric bypass but after looking into it, we decided the band was a better choice.

Saw Mohammad Ali's daughter on Montel Williams show talking about how she lost over 100 pounds with the lapband.

A co-worker who WAS over 500lbs had it done. I used him as my guinea pig! I saw how much he has lost over the last year or so and decided that it was going to be much better for me than RNY, which my sister-in-law had. Granted she went from a tight size 30 to a lose 10 in about a year, but her skin and hair and even her eyes dont have any luster to them.

I had been wanting wls for years and first my insurance didn't cover it, then they did but only the RNY. I was way too afraid of the RNY, so I put it off and out of my mind. Then the last week of school there were some parents decorating the gym for a dance. One of my co-workers introduced me to a lady who had had it. She was still heavy, but so enthused about it. I hadn't heard of the "new band" surgery. I did the research and found out how much less drastic it is and decided I had to have it. that was at the end of May. Now, in mid-July I am approved and going in to see the surgeon tomorrow. I dedicated my time off this summer to research and insurance approval and am so glad I did. I am looking forward to this so much. I miss being normal sized!!!! Look out size 12 here I come.....

I read about Sharon Osbourne having it done a few years ago. It really appealled to me as far less dangerous than rny. Then I searched and searched until I finally found out about doctors in Canada doing it.

I saw it in a "FIRST" magazine. It wasn't approved yet and it was just a wee little blurb about an inch long. I got on the net and started researching, mostly austrailian sites. That was in 2001. I was banded August of 2002. I was pissed because I had to wait 4 months for my consult. Now he has a one year waiting list. Just for the consult! He also did my revision to DS.

When "The Osbourne's" were popular on MTV, I heard about Sharon Osbourne having a band around her stomach to lose weight. I thought about it briefly, then dismimssed it. Then, while on a cruise in 2004 I was reading "O" magazine. There was an article in it about all different kinds of WLS, including the band. Of course the information was limited, but I was at a point where I needed to do something and RNY was not something I was willing to do. So, I researched and researched, then scheduled a seminar with the closest doc I could find. The rest, as they say, is history.

That's pretty much my same story.

I had ruled out bypass, and my husband said there was no way he would go along with bypass. So, I was looking for weight loss support on the internet and somehow stumbled across inamed's site.

I was watching the television while getting a pedicure and it just so happened that the friend I was with had mentioned trying to lose weight. Low and behold a commercial came up regarding it. I called first thing Monday morning...of course the wait for the seminar was like 2 mos.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
