FRUSTRATING NEWS !!

Recommended Posts

I am what Kaiser calls a "reactivated case". I was in their bariatrics program years ago but dropped out and recently have been approved to go back. In the 4 years that I was gone, I gained 40 pounds. Kaiser wants me to lose that 40 pounds before surgery and they have given me approx. 4 months to do it...

They gave me a meal plan and told me to exercise. I am going to have to BUST MY A** to lose this weight in 4 months and I need some serious suggestions... help.gif

I had great preop success by mimicking the sleeve diet. Eating tiny portions and drinking Protein shakes/drinks. Honestly, I didn't exercise at all, still trying to work on that. I figured why not begin my new eating habits early, and i am glad I did. It made things much easier after surgery and I HAD TO eat that way. Just an idea I thought you might consider. Good luck!

May I suggest doing the low-carb high Protein diet? I never lost much weight before but I had to do the low carb (under 30 per day, and those were only for incidentals) diet for my PSWL. I've lost 32 lbs so far and it has been just about four months. I think if I had pushed the exercise and the Water it could have been more. Good luck!

If you are truly following Kaiser's pre-op diet plan and at least walking 3-5 times a week, you WILL lose that 40lbs.

TRUST ME!! I did that pre-op plan and lost 55lbs in 5 months, so I know that plan works, IF you do it.

You can do it, the first week is the hardest and then it is a walk in the park! Good luck to you!

I also belong to Kaiser, the one in Downey. I completed the 12 week Options Plan back in August. I am now set to be sleeved on Oct 25.

I followed Kaiser's sensible diet plan that I had learned in their Option's program. It really isn't a diet. It is a way of life. And it really is a lot of food. I never really felt like I was starving. And that is how we have to think about this. I do exercise. And believe me, I was not one to exercise. But I joined a gym and I exercise at least 5 days a week there for at least an hour. Many times even longer. I've found that I like it! And I wish I had started it sooner!! And I do feel so much better afterwards.

I've lost more than they asked for to get ready for my surgery. I've lost 45 pounds. From 278 at my highest, to 233 today. I'm going to try to continue to lose up until the day I have surgery.

As hard as it is, you must change your lifestyle and lose the weight before surgery. No surgeon will do the surgery if you can't lose some weight before surgery. It is in your best interest to do so. So you can have a safer surgery and be successful for years to come!

But you CAN do it! If I can, anyone can! ;)

I think the hardest part, at least for me, is I have to do a 2 day liquid diet before surgery. THAT is going to be hard for me I think.

GOOD LUCK!!

P.S. Also, I did sometimes eat what I shouldn't have. But I would work harder at the gym the next day. Yes, I fell off the horse! But I got back on, and continued eating right. YOU CAN DO IT!!

I lost 32 lbs. in three months following the Kaiser pre-op plan. I did exercise 5 days per week for 30-45 minutes. I went from 254 to 222 and I'm 5'6". I did cheat but not often. Generally a couple of times per month.

Good luck Deb, you can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
