kalyssa8392 2 Posted September 15, 2011 Well I am 19 years old and a soon to be college student. I have struggled with my weight for most if not all of my life. I have never been thin, always overweight. When I was younger like elementary/middle school age my weight really affected me mentally and socially. I used to get picked on all of the time. It wasn't until my freshman year of highschool that I became confident and comfortable in who I was, and the way I looked. I have tried diet after diet after diet and they just don't work, or I am just not motivated enough to follow through. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) in the 8th grade that i saw my weight was an issue medically. With this syndrome comes many things.....diabetes being one of them. I have type 2 diabetes that is now controlled with medication, but i still worry about things like my eye sight and my feet and legs. Anyway......I am wanting to get this surgery so that I can get rid of all this weight and become a healthier woman. What I want in life is to become a wife/mother. I know that as long as I have this weight on that it will be extremly hard if not imposible for me to have children. I have my first appointment with my Dr. on October 4th. If anyone has any advice, I would love to hear it! Thanks <

Tera 3 Posted September 15, 2011 Welcome to the forum. I am new also. This place is very helpful and the people are great. Its so wonderful that you got your PCOS diagnosis early. I didn't know about mine until my 30's. I always thought it was odd that I was infertile for 8 years, and then one summer I lost about 25 pounds line dancing and BOOM, i got pregnant. All I can say is do it. DO THE SURGERY! Its the best thing I ever did. I am only starting week 4, and my diabetes and blood pressure problems are gone. I wish I had done it earlier. I ended up with 2 beautiful kids, now teenagers. I wanted 3 tho. If I had the surgery back then, I would have gotten my 3rd no doubt. Do it for confidence, freedom to wear those cute junior sized clothes, do it for your future ease in having babies, and mostly do it for your life. It can save your life hun. Hugs.
