HOW can u possibly get 60+grams of Protein without supplements??

Recommended Posts

There's no way you'll be able to get in 60 grams of Protein in at four days out of surgery. The first time I hit my goal of 70 grams was exactly two weeks after surgery. Four days out I was really just focusing on getting my Water in and sips of Protein Drinks every few hours.

I'm a little over 5 weeks out and I'm STILL trying to get this 60g of Protein thing together. It doesn't help that I don't like eggs. It seems to be that everyone is eating eggs & cheese for Breakfast and that packs a lot of protein. I have to do some experimenting to make myself like them. Maaaaaaybe I can try the breakfast bites from eggface's website???

I just posted this same problem in the wrong area! Oops. I too, struggle hard with this. I guess I have a smaller sleeve than others because I cant hold that much at a meal! That would definatelly make it easier! I can barely hold a whole egg. If I add cheese to it or sausage or anything else I can only eat half of it and that defeats my purpose. I can only hold about 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz of chicken or fish. Ughhh this is so frustrating. I am only getting about 400 calories a day on a good day and about 25 to 30 grams of protein.. not even half of what I am supposed to get! HELP!

Hey, there is no 'rule' that you have to eat breakfast food at breakfast time! you can eat whatever you want. I have a child that hates eggs, and likes meatballs for breakfast. Guess what we always have in the fridge ready to nuke for her! She is 4, I hope one day she will decide to like Cereal like the other 2, makes mornings a bit easier, but hey, pick your battles right! You can eat what ever you want for breakfast. Make up little bowls of meat and cheese with sauce to heat and go, or chicken wraps (chicken in cheese). how about meat roll ups! there are so many things you can make that are easy to do as an on the go meal, if that is what you need. Yogurt is good to, just watch the carbs.

Here is my typical day at almost 2 months out:

Egg Beaters (1/2 cup=2 servings), Colby 5-% reduced fat cheese & deli ham for Breakfast = 29 grams Protein

snack - Greek Yogurt (14g) & Laughing Cow mini light cheese wedge (3g) = 17g

lunch - 1 cup Hormel Turkey Chili w/ reduced fat cheese = 26 g

Afternoon snack - 1/2 banana with 2 tbs Peanut Butter = 8 g

dinner - chicken thigh = 18g with some sort of veggie - usually broccoli (3g) = 21g

Total for day is 101 grams - it adds up pretty quick. Chili has been one of my favorite things - it is a bit high in sodium but I try not to eat high sodium during the rest of the day and that helps.

Hope this helps!

K :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
