I had my surgery on June 13th. I was hungry from the start and the hunger continued. Had my first fill on Wednesday July 12th. My Doctor requires 3 days of liquids followed by 3 days of mushies. I was hungry after the fill and it continued.

On Saturday I started mushies. I had a scrambled egg for Breakfast, chili con queso for late lunch and homemade potato Soup for dinner. I had baked a potato to add to the Soup to give it some texture. I put a few pieces of it in the cup of soup I was eating. On the 3rd sip, WHAM, a tiny piece of potato slipped through my teeth. I felt that golf ball. I just stopped in my tracks and started praying that it would pass.

I started Pbing, sliming, hiccuping, burping, and then it would start again. Five hours later that part seemed to be over, but my esphagus was buring like hell. I could have supplied a flame thrower all the fire they would need for their tricks. I slept sitting up in bed.

On Sunday it took me all day and most of the evening to drink 2 ozs of Water, 1 Boost, and 1 weak cup of coffee. That's it. It stayed down, but it hurt once I swallowed.

Today is better. I am drinking my Boost real slow, but it doesn't hurt like before. I'll stay on liquids today as well.

Although I have no hunger, and lost 5 lbs during this process, I still want you to revoke my membership in the PB club. I have no interest in attending any more meetings. Just give me my release now and don't call on me again.

Thank you for your quick attention to this.

It wasn't big at all. It was a tiny chunk about the size of my pinky fingertip. All I can think of is that the piece was floating in the Soup and the soup acted like a liquid and made it "swell". Thank goodness I had read so much online that I wasn't scared - just damn uncomfortable!

OMG,

I am so afraid of that. Just one week banded and that is my biggest fear. I still everyone once in a while when I need to burp get this tight sensation across my chest. Scary as hell I bet. Dread the day it happens. Hope your feeling better soon.

I had pretty much the same experience last nite. Tried to eat a small piece of fish. It must have got stuck had severe pain until I threwup. Now this morning I'm not in pain but I am alittle uncomfortable when i sip Water or my Protein Drink. I am praying that nothing slipped.

You probably didn't slip. This is not a pleasant experience to be sure. I think now I'm too tight. I took a sip of Water last night and got the golfball and again this morning on a sip of coffee. I'm going to wait a few hours and if I don't loosen up I'm calling for a unfill.

I remember my first ever BP OH MY GOD. U coulda ripped the lap band right out there and then. I was at a hardware store. and I ate a chip with about 100 kilos of gravy stacked on top of it. CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEWed till the cows come home then swolloed. Then I stopped dead in my tracks too, I said to mum oh my god my chest it hurts, its like my chest is caving in. I burped and I salived all over the place, I sweated and couldnt breath, the pain was horrific. then around 20 minutes of walking around holding my chest out side, praying and crying it went through.

Ive also had a few vomits, they are better cuz it almost comes up, but when its stuck OH LORD.

Good Luck. Needless to say I never ate a chip again lol.

A PB is when food gets stuck from eating too fast, not chewing enough, or it was just a type of food that you'll no longer find easy to eat.

Those of you who are PB'ing that badly on soft foods should go get a small unfill. There is no reason you should be going thru such agony. Good restriciton does not mean you have to rely on super soft or liquidy foods. In fact, that is counterproductive. You should be able to eat a resonable variety of hard Proteins (chicken, fish, red meat) along with fruits and veggies (altho some fiberous fruits and veggies will always be a problem).

Consider that small adjustment to your fill. Your body will thank you.

For future reference.. Potatoes, in any form are very dense and tend to 'settle' in the band as well. Scrambled eggs do the same. This is one (but not the only) reason that most docs say no potatoes, no Pasta, no breads.. Live and learn - we've all been there or will be going there. Like Jack said.. you can check out, but you can never leave...

You have a great technic for writing. Thanks for the good laugh. I'm sure at the time you weren't laughing.

UPDATE: I had .7 cc taken out of the band today. Immediate relief and was able to drink Water without golfball forming. Interesting note: the fluro before taking out showed the barium going down just fine. Just like it did when they put it in. I now know that is very deceiving and doesn't mean you have the right amount of restriction.

I lost 8 lbs in one week. Not the way I wanted to lose it, but I'll take the loss. Glad this is over for now and hope that the fill will now do its work. Time will tell.

I am soooooooooooo scared of this occuring to me and I feel bad that it has happened to you already ! I had a 4cc band placed in mid-April this year, have lost 52 pounds and have 1.5cc filled. I have never PB'd and I can eat EVERYTHING ! I do not want anymore fills until it is absolutely necessary as I cannot fathom going through what you have described ! Does anybody PB with 1.5 in a 4 ? This is definitely one club I wish NOT TO JOIN, EVER !

Weeelll, unfortunately, I experienced my first PB session yesterday and I have 1.8 cc fill in a 4cc balloon. I guess I wasn't paying attention and didn't chew well enough. Yes, I experienced the searing pain in my chest, my nose ran, my eyes watered and I started sliming like crazy! Thankfully I ran straight to the bathroom and it came up without too much trouble, then instant relief. I did, however, stick to liquids and a bit of mashed potatoes the rest of the day! I'm kinda glad that my first PB is over so I no longer have to dread the first one!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
