Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake

Recommended Posts

I am 3 months out and to be honest, shakes get boring. I love fall time because it means Thanksgiving foods! Or pumpkin pie... ohhh purrr! If you crave that comforting taste / smell of pumpkin pie during fall, why not try a pumpkin Protein Shake. Yumm-O!

1/3 cup canned pumpkin puree
1/3 cup milk
1 dash of vanilla

2 packets Splenda
Cinnamon (to taste)
Nutmeg (to taste)
1 scoop vanilla Protein powder

ice

My friend used coffee creamer to make her shake extra thick - not good for those of us watching our carbs. Super tasty shake and makes me LOVE fall time :)

Enjoy!

Sounds yummy :) Do you think if you added some espresso powder or coffee to it and blended it with ice it would taste anywhere close to the pumpkin spice frapp at starbucks? that is one of my favorite drinks and I would love to be able to re-create it.

Oh man.... I've so been wanting to try a pumpkin shake (or pumpkin pudding or pumpkin mixed with greek yogurt) - it's that time of year. But I can't find canned pumpkin ANYWHERE! I've checked several large grocery stores, and either they're completely out, or there's not even a spot on the shelf for it. It's like there's been a recall. Weird!

Now I'm motivated to try a couple more stores - that looks yummy!

I heard on the radio this week that the recent flooding impacted the pumpkin crops. A few years ago, there were problems with the pumpkin crops and you couldn't find canned pumpkin anywhere! Earlier this year Kroger had their cans on sale so I bought 20 cans. I thought I would never use that much, but I only have 7 cans left. LOL!

I have a bit of an addiction to pumpkin spice muffins. You can go to sparkrecipes.com and type in pumpkin and you will get all sorts of interesting ideas. Good luck!

I worked out the recipe for the starbucks coffee tonight. It's as follows:

Everything in a blender -

1 cup milk (we buy a milk alternative that's real milk - not soy or whatever and it's lower carb with 12g Protein per 8oz... i had 3/4c 2% left over so i had to top it off with fat free)

1 tbs pumpkin

1/2 tbs light brown sugar (it was a minimal amount so i used real rather than the splenda brown sugar)

1 tbs vanilla extract

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp clove

1/8 tsp nutmeg

2 cups fresh brewed coffee

**I also added 1 scoop unflavored Isopure

this makes 2 good sized servings. here are the stats when i entered it into myfitnesspal (it'll vary depending on your milk/protein powder)

150 calories/9 carbs/2 fat/20 protein/9 sugar/1 Fiber

My husband drank the rest and added ice and sugar to his. I needed a packet of equal in mine. I know the starbucks isn't very sweet and the 1 packet put it about on par with that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A. Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
