Large bone structure?

Recommended Posts

My sister had the gastric bypass surgery back in 2000. Then in 2002, she had a revision, Tummy Tuck, and hernia repair surgery all in one. She was almost 500lbs when she had the surgery. I do know that she has a larger bone structure, and once she got down to 190lbs she really looked like she was sick. She looked like all skin and bones and did not look healthy. This is something that I am really worried about. I am 5'9" 330lbs, and my goal is to get down to about a size 10 in pants. I am afraid that I will have the same problem she did. She was wearing a size 18 in pants when she was that size. Unfortunately, she has had some stressful events happen in her life since the surgery, and now her and I can wear the same clothes. She finds it somewhat depressing that her and I are the same size, she's happy at her size now, and I want to change. Any input on this? It would really help!!

Well, everyone is different, but I will tell you this. I am 5ft 8in. and I weigh 175lb. I wear a size 8 pants and I don't look sick.

I am tall and bigger boned too. I carry my weight well and always have. Even at 280lbs, people did not believe that I weighed that much. I could easily lose another 25lbs and be fine, but my goal is another 10lbs. I will see how I look when I get to that point. I don't want to be a size 4 so I have to put the breaks on. Another 10lbs puts me on the high end of the healthy BMI chart.

You will know what is a good size/weight for you when you get there. As long as you don't have image issues and think that you are a size 28 when you are a 10 you will be fine. You will know!

Good luck!

Kelly :)

Yes, we are all different! I am 5'8" too, and weigh 159. I am a size 12 and look like I could stand to lose another 15-20 lbs. I am small-boned I think (my wrists are SO TINY now) and carry my weight in my hips and thighs. Go by how you look and feel and not by the number on the scale.< /p>

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
