Slooow Burn in my belly ... is this the acid issue everyone speaks of???

Recommended Posts

You're welcome Eddie!! I've never used Crystal Lite ... I usually use the generics. That being said what I started doing is using half a pack. I still get the flavor that I need ... because I really don't like plain Water. I haven't taken any meds & haven't had any burning for weeks. Not having that burn is the BEST feeling. As I'm sure you know since yours is gone too. :-)

I also recently discovered that my G2 was not helping my heartburn. Also, my Fuze Slenderizer drinks have malic acid (a milder form of citric acid). I stopped drinking both and taking Zantac 150mg twice a day, and that has helped! My acidy feeling has moved up from mid-chest to my throat; never felt it in my stomach. I hope that's a sign that the acid is going away. I hope you're all heartburn free when you read this!

Acid feelings in the throat are reflux. Reflux is when stomach acid is forced up into the esophagus; sleeve patients have a lot of problems with this and need to be very mindful of it. Constant or repeated reflux can actually lead to esophageal cancer (and other problems).

Definitely work on controlling your acid (and reflux) with omeprazole or some other acid blocker. You can also use situational antacids when you're still feeling the burn; omeprazole isn't a quick fix.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
