Coming up on my one-year anniversary

Recommended Posts

October 7th will mark my one-year anniversary. My weight loss has greatly slowed during this past month, but I am down 140 pounds in less than a year. I feel fantastic... I'm active like never before and am loving life. Having sleeve surgery was one of the very best decisions I ever made in my entire life. For all of you contemplating or about to have your sugery, know that there is life on the other side. And it is goooooood.

One of the things that helped me during this year was eating Soup. I turned into a soup-obsessed feak, mostly I think, because I could not bring myself to drink the Protein Shakes. Man, I hate those things. But I made a lot of my own Soups and really bumped up the Protein in them and enjoyed that much more.

I'm glad I found this community. I didn't know it existed before today. Cheers to us all!

My plan was to use the crock pot a whole lot. Would you share your Soup recipes? I'd rather make nutritious things from my own kitchen that spend a huge amount of my on Protein Shakes. I've never liked those things. I know I will need some, but I like the idea of soup much better.

140 lbs in one year?? That is amazing lady!! If I was back up north (were I should be, sigh) and not stuck here in icky sticky Florida I would be all over the Soup thing as well! Unfortunately I am one of those people who can't tolerate very hot or warm liquids when it is hot outside as well!

What did you do to bump up the Protein in them?

I haven't discovered a high-protein cold soup yet, although I'm working on it. Fortunately (????) we had a really nasty cold summer and I didn't have a heat issue for soup. Next year I'll play more with adding Protein to a nice chilled soup.

To make sure the Soups are high in protein I usually include two different Proteins in each soup. So Beans, meats, high-protein grains, etc... The soup I posted yesterday on my blog has 15 grams per 1/2 cup and tastes really yummy. :)

@Soup-a-Woman: Soup recipes please!!! I love soup and the only good one that I can make is chicken noodle - minus the noodle!!:D :D I also make a mean gumbo but of course it's not healthy for you so I try to stay away from making it quite so much!

Wow, 140 lbs is phenomenal!! Congrats to you! I enjoy Soup too, as a matter of fact, I just bought the stuff to make some too. It's been a little cooler here and Fall is almost here, so I love eating stuff like that. I'm glad you found us!

The chicken with the addition of the egg-drop would kick up the Protein. Very good!

Since I am getting sleeved soon (hopefully) I was wondering if you had Soups for the people at puree stage?

You rock Soup-A-Woman!!! Thank you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
