SURGERY ON 09/02-I HAVE NO PROBLEMS?

Recommended Posts

I was also able to drink alot and have had no issues eating. I am a little over 4 months out now and have NEVER been sick or anything.

The only problem I did have was when I first went to soft foods, they sat really heavy in my chest and throat for a while. I had to thin them alot and only eat a few bites. I got full really fast. My dr. said I was still swollen and it would go away. It did and now I can eat anything without issue!

:D WOW!!! AND you don't seem to have any issues losing weight! 100lbs how awesome!

I can't wait to lose a big amount, but I really did not do the pre-op and so I have only lost 10lbs. But I am hopeful, because I eat way less, but more frequent.

I just had surgery on Saturday, with Dr. Almanza, and I too am having np with my liquids. No heartburn, I also tried a bite of applesauce and np at all. I find myself getting hungry and would like to add some mushies, but will wait until at least next week before I give that a try. I bought some Gatorade today that has Protein in it and that seems to be helping with the actual hunger. I know I have head hunger with some of the cravings and all the great food I see on TV.

I also was a lucky one with no major complications. I did have find that if I ate to fast I would get the burps but I can live with that. I do have to be careful with breads/buns that sit kinda heavy. I was also diabetic on medication. The year before surgery my A1c was 7.0 and at my 6 month follow up I was 5.2. It is a wonderful feeling. I have found that at 8 months I stopped losing weight. I have tried all the tricks posted but I am happy with where I at. I can wear 8-10 pants and in a size 14 top/dress. I love looking at myself in the mirror. I just wish my thinking would change on how I look in pictures (I think I still look heavy). Good Luck.

I had surgery on the 8th with Dr Kelly--I threw up once right after I woke up, then had dry heaves for a few minutes--and that was it!! I have no problems drinking and getting my fluids in. My tummy is not sore, I had no gas pains, nothing. I had bought tons of gas x strips, and mouth spray and all of that and didn't need any of it...

We rented a car and drove home from San Diego to Texas on the 10th--I had no problems with that either. I was a little shaky today, so I broke out the Gatorade again and felt fine after a few sips. I walked our driveway a couple of times today (live in the country so it is long) and felt fine--going to do it again for the next few days to build up and then off I go!!!

You've done a great job on your weight loss!! And it's wonderful news about your A1C too. Congrats! I would love being in your sizes :) I understand about the "changing your thinking" thing. Some days I feel thinner and some days I feel like I did at my heaviest. It's really weird!

I had surgery with Dr. Kelly as well and have no problems getting fluids or food in. I had bad nausea and dry heaves for about 12 hours, yes TWELVE LONG hours, after surgery..lol But since I then I have been a text book case of easy street. :)

I'm two weeks post op and I am having a very similar experience as you did. Limited pain and no isues getting my Fluid and Proteins in. I've been back to work almost a week already and walk 1 to 2 miles a day depending on schedule and weather. My incisions are nearly healed up and I am so ready for Phase III diet. Weights coming off as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
