New start 4 Posted September 13, 2011 To introduce myself, my name is Rebecca, and I am new to this site, and have been learning so much!! Thank you to everyone who shares, as it really is so helpful. I have a surgery date of 10-13-11, but have been working through this process for most of a year. I hear alot from folks that are frustrated by the pre-op pace, but I have found that the time it has taken me to loss my pre-op wt, see PT, the nutrionist, my PCP x 6mths, the support meetings, the program NP, surgeon, and psycologist has been valuble in me being prepared mentally for this major life change. When I realize that this is for the rest of my life, a year doesn't seem like a big thing. My question has to do with caffiene. My Dr says that it is contraindicated after the sleeve becuase it is an irritant to the stomach lining. It is the one thing I am really struggling with. I haven't seen any posts about this. Did everyone have to give up real coffee as well? Also, is there anyone who lives near the NH Seacoast?
rubyspring 1 Posted September 13, 2011 I gave up caffeine right after my initial consultation. It hasn't been a big problem but I only had coffee on the weekends before. I missed the taste so switched to Decaf and actually drink it more often now. My doc says it's a no-no for life but others have posted that they are only restricted for the 1st year or less. I know it's a diuretic and the first months after being sleeved many of us struggle to avoid dehydration. Good luck on your journey.

Monica_Lynn 0 Posted September 13, 2011 I decided to give up caffeine months ago so I wouldn't have headaches right before or after surgery. I am not a big coffee drinker but I was drinking a lot of soda that I gave up at the same time. I moved to Decaf tea--iced.
ASBgirl 53 Posted September 13, 2011 I am 12 weeks out and drink at least 2 cups of regular coffee every day. Have been for about 6 weeks. It does not bother my sleeve.
