Can hardly eat a thing

Recommended Posts

I have always and still do have massive restriction. I am 12 months in a few days. I mostly only eat Protein still because of this. I still can not eat breads, rice, pasta...ie carbs. I am 2 lbs below goal and I am still loosing weight , but I am 5'4 and 128 lbs...I really don't have any more to loose. This does worry me and especially my hubby. Now some days are better than others, the other day I actually got in about 1000 calories (1st time since sleeve)....which is alot for me...my average is 600-800. I was sleeved at the smallest guide. I much rather work to get calories in than the other way around....trust me!

I know when I here people on the board say how much they can eat it blows my mind.... I can eat only 2-3 small bites at one time, which takes me about 15 minutes and I chew it to a liquid consistency. This way of eating is not fun in any way......I dread eating food now. I eat for nourishment PERIOD....not any other reason.

Yes, I got this surgery so I would not eat for fun, and now I am all butt hurt because eating is not fun. Go figure. We people are so funny sometimes.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
