Pre-Op Usuals

Recommended Posts

Today is my pre-op diet day one. I am at 06:00 going through the hows any whys. I have read that this is the hardest part of the Sleeve process. I've been on clear liquid diets before but only for a day or two. Not ten days. I'm told that I can have 4 Protein Shakes and a salad. Daily. The goal is minimal calories to reduce "fatty liver".

Are the pre-ops usually this strict or is it surgeon-specific? Others in his (my surgeon) office say that keeping calories low is mist important not necessarily what you eat. Well I can't imagine shrinking a liver on an Atkins-style diet. Zone diet maybe but right now I just want to keep the calories way down. What has everyone's ceiling been?

My pre-op is two weeks super low carb (under 30 per day) which I have actually been doing for the past 4 months. Then I have clears for two days beforehand. So I think that the pre-op diet is surgeon-specific and it may even be person-specific as well. Someone with a smaller BMI (say low 40's) may not need to shrink their liver as much as someone say in the 50's range.

Good luck!

I have been put on a 14 day pre op diet:

1. Drink 2 Protein supplement a day

2. Have one 350 calorie meal with a veggie salad ( I chose Lean Cuisine)

3. Drink calorie free drinks and stay well hydrated with Water.

4. Take Vitamins and minerals as thought you already had surgery.

5.Continue being physically active at least 30 mins/ 5 times per week

then 2 day before surgery:

1.Begin a clear liquid diet

then 1 day before surgery:

1.Continue clear liquid diet

2. Drink bottle of Magnesium Citrate

3. Nothing to eat or drink by mouth after midnight.

Hope that helps biggrin.gif My surgery is in 6 days star.gif

Thanks everyone. And good luck, Penguin Lover. I think that I will indeed do a low carb diet up until two days out. Then switch to the clear liquids two days out. Bowel Prep day before and NPO after midnight.

I am anxious!!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
