Banded 7/5/06, revised 7/14/06

Recommended Posts

Most of the posts that I've been able to find regardin revision are from people who had their revisions years after their initial surgery. Is there anyone out there in LBT land that had to have their band revised as quickly as I did? My surgeon said my did a slip and flip, probably caused by vomiting. I just got home from the hospital today and feel better than I did after the initial surgery. Also, is anyone doing the Walk From Obesity in September? If you're interested, check out their website and find out if a walk is being held near you.

I got you beat by several days. I was banded on a Saturday and re-banded on Tuesday. I had swelling issue and medicine and time would not correct so I was given the larger band during the second surgery. No problems since than and that was a February of 2005.

This is totally normal!!! You have just had major surgry (abdominal is considered major)...you had a camera and several instruments moving around in your stomach!! The port was stitched in....piercing muscles and stitching them always hurts. They should have given you liquid codene when you left. The gas will come in a few days.

It sounds like this was your first surgery...best wishes to you!;)

The walk from obesity is being held nationwide on September 30th. Visit walkingfromobesity.com and see if you have a city near you. I will be walking in Dallas, Texas, along with other people that were banded by the same doctor.

Anything that went in my mouth, including Water, caused me great discomfort. I had to take a Gas X or Tums before eating anything. I would have at least one episode of "productive burping" a day. It felt completely different from the way you feel when you've eaten too much...it was painful! I hope this answers your question :-) Be sure to communicate with your doctor, if you have any concerns. I waited way too long to contact mine because I thought I was just supposed to be feeling that way. Good luck!

Dianer, I was rebanded 4 days after 1st surgery. Never left the hospital. My husband calls me "twiced sliced". My first band slipped immediately; And I never vomited. The Doc said I had lots of adheshions around my stomach and maybe when I coughed right after surgery it slipped. But I was in a lot of pain right away. Like swallowing razor blades. Anyway, the 2 surgeries and 5 days in the hospital really took a lot out of me. It took weeks before I had any energy at all. And about 8 weeks before I was feeling normal. BUT feel great now! It took a while to say this but I am glad I had the surgery.

Littlebird, how are you doing now? Your post was a few days ago. My experience of a slipped band is a lot like a Fill that is too tight. Can't swallow even a little Water, lots of pain, I never vomited but it can also be a symptom.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
