I'm Losing My Mind !!! Any Albertans out there with VSG?

Recommended Posts

Super happy to see some fellow Albertans on this thread! I am supposed to go to a meeting July 8 in Red Deer regarding a bariatric sleeve. People are telling me its a 6 year wait!!? Is this true?

The wait is making me look at the Mexico route. Its $6500 plus airfare so of course Id rather see about the Red Deer option but a 6 year wait is so unrealistic!

Thoughts? PLEASE HELP!

I got my sleeve in March through AHS. I'm in Calgary and my wait from the very first intake session to my surgery was 15 months. During those 15 months I was working with my wonderful dietician, psychologist and nurse and the time passed by flying. I am really happy with the support I've have from the program. I can't even imagine how hard it would have been to do this on my own.

Hey everyone!

Im so happy to hear from fellow albertans! im from just outside of edmonton. I just finalized my surgery tonight! I will be having the gastric sleeve on july 25, 2014 in Tijuana with Dr. Almanza! Im excited and scared all at the same time. I started the process here through the weight wise clinic but at the time i was not considering surgery! i know that weight times are becoming less but i want to get it over with and start my new life! Im glad to hear that some of you used dr. Almanza as well! i had family that used him and highly recommended him! Its only costing 4200.00 plus flights! If anyone would like to keep and contact and share our experiences feel free to message me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
