I'm Losing My Mind !!! Any Albertans out there with VSG?

Recommended Posts

I'm from Cold Lake, and was sleeved in Edmonton. 1yr out next week and almost 100lbs down. No regrets at all, at first you look at at your tiny little portions and miss eating a supersized meal but your satisfied on so much less, and around 10 months out you can eat much more, maybe 1 - 11/2 cups of food... meat fills you faster, but I can now eat a big salad.

Just remember how much better you'll feel and how good you'll look when the weight comes off, and never really being hungry again.

I had no problems at all a sleeve of steel, can eat everything and do but in much maller portions. I'm a slow loser, so that's been frustrating but slowly still dropping weight.

You may mourn for your food but that will pass as you lose the weight and feel so much better.

Oh and my wait for surgery in Edmonton was only about 6 months and I didn't go through weight wise clinic either. Plus it's free.

Hello fellow Edmontonians and surrounding areas!

TaniaB,

I was wondering how you went about getting your surgery. I tried calling a surgeons office and he directed me to weight wise and then they told me I need a note from my physician (I actually have that appointment tomorrow). I want to get this under way ASAP as I am committed to getting this surgery as a weight loss tool and don't want them giving me the run around. In fact I was sad to hear that in Canada we don't offer self pay because I don't want to fret about being denied approval and would rather just pay myself and have it done sooner.

Sorry for rambling, the point I'm trying to get across is just asking what steps you took towards your sleeve if not through weight wise. I'd much appreciate the information :D

Have you attempt to get any reimbursement of the cost through healthcare? Which doctor did you go to?

I think I will submit my receipts for my taxes and I might get a break there! No hassle and was booked for surgery 1 month after deciding to do it!

I went through Weightloss For Eternity... I believe I had Dr.Lopez and I've had no complaints :)

Hi

I'm not meaning to be nosy but how did your procedure cost. I have the lapband however within a few years will probably go to sleeve :)

And the dr was great?

Thank you so much for your time

Hi all

I am new here, considering the gastric sleeve. Trying to decide between Mexico (OCC VS Ready4achange) and here in Alberta. Going to get referral sent to weigh wise next Monday. May try and get a referral to Dr Doug Davey who I heard takes referrals without going through weight wise.

I would like to know how long it took you from referral to surgery in Alberta. Thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
