working on the process to get sleeved

Recommended Posts

hello everyone! I'm new here, my name is Kacey, I'm 40 years old and I'm a wife, mom and RN. I've been obese since I was 9 years old. I've lost significant amounts of weight several times, using diet pills, WW, low carb. Unfortunately, I can't ever keep it off.

I am down 45 lbs from my highest weight of 314 (I'm 5'3"), and I've kept that off now for almost a year, but it is slowly creeping back up. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes last year and have been working hard since to get it under control. I also have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. Soooo, when I found out my husband's insurance does cover WLS, I decided to try for approval.

I have WW receipts to cover the need for structured diet, I have a letter of medical necessity from my long time physician and I will have my psych eval starting next week. I have picked a surgeon and did the initial meeting/info seminar last month and I've been working with the insurance person @ that hospital. I have started exercising a minimum of an hour a day four days a week, including cardio and strength training. I seem to be able to do one or the other (healthy diet or exercise) but not both at the same time. So, I'm trying to make good choices and concentrating on moving right now.

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm praying that the right decision will be made and that I'll be lead down the correct path for me and my family.

Kacey

Welcome Kacey. Dont be surprised if you have to do a six month supervised diet which seems like a long time but goes by fast. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. This is one of the best decisions you could ever make for yourself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
