My roommate hid my scale

Recommended Posts

Ok 7 days and the scale hasn't moved at all. It is so frustrating! I'm maybe eating 500 cals a day when I'm really trying, and if I slack I maybe get 300! Preop I ate 3000+ a day! How can I not be losing weight! So the question is when do I make my roommate return my scale????

i had a stall bout 1 month out and was wondering the same thing. not sure if the body goes into "starvation mode" and tries to hold onto all of its fat? i walked as much as i could tolerate (slow walk!) and the more i did that the more inches that came off. i hope you take your measurements because i know that is where most of us see the biggest difference when it is not always reflecting on the scale!:rolleyes:

If you are not eating enough calories, your body does go into a starvation mode and hangs onto everything. I found that upping my calories to around 700-800 helped to break the stall. Also, when I lose 10 pounds quickly, it usually takes my body a week to adjust and I don't lose anything. Then it starts to come off again. Don't worry, the weight will come off. It has no choice. Better to not lose it too fast because when you do, then you have Hair loss to "enjoy"! I had a nasty 8 day stall 3 weeks after surgery. I learned on this forum that a stall at that time was very common. Just keep on with your program....you will beat it this time!!

Every day I get on the scales I want to smack the snot out of one of these diet experts you STILL see saying "calories in calories out". I'm a very slow loser. Very slow. I am pretty much maxed out at about 750-850 calories a day. Like you, I was eating much more, my average in the months prior to surgery when I was "dieting" was still 1850 per day. And I was losing at EXACTLY the same pace as I have post sleeve. If you do the simple math, it does not make any sense. And yet you still hear the experts telling people it's as simple as calories in and calories out. Having just gone through another 3 week stall, I can assure you it isn't.

I just hang onto the fact that I don't think I will ever gain it all back this time. Losing will be slow for me, but I think that with the restriction I will have some time to get back to a sane mind before I really gain too much down the road. That's always been my pattern before. I'm basically a healthy eater who would have 4 really bad days in a month. Those bad days are now controlled and they pass now the same as they did before, just with very little damage done.

I'm just saying this to encourage anyone else in a stall or losing slowly. It all adds up! And we will get there too.

And regarding the scales, go buy another set and hide it from the roommate. :rolleyes:

:rofl::lol3:

I don't want to drive myself crazy, so I plan on asking my husband to hide it and only bring it out 1 day a week. Could you try it and let me know how it goes? :lol:

My house isn't that big. Unless he put it in the trunk of his car and actually took it from me, I don't think it would be long before I'd find it and be weighing. But I'm past the every day thing and only weighing maybe twice a week. My scales move so slowly I'm afraid I'd use it as an excuse to eat something bad. I play those head games with myself.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
