Shea 13 Posted September 9, 2011 Well, in two weeks I'll be finished with my 6 months supervised diet. I had a BMI of 49.9 but my insurance requires 50 to be approved for VSG. I'm so nervous they wont approve me. The surgeons office doesnt think it will be a problem for me to be approved since I'm so close. I have Humana PPO. Has anyone gotten approved and not had the exact BMI required?
A New Day 5 Posted September 9, 2011 Can you gain just a tad to make it 50?
Shea 13 Posted September 10, 2011 Of course I could and would love too but I was told the insurance company goes by the weight you were when you first started you diets so I think it may be too late to meet that requirement but I dont know for sure.
doggz109 41 Posted September 10, 2011 If its so close why not just have your surgeon put 50 even? Insurance is very strict....if they say you need 50 and you have 49.9999998.....you will be denied.
Shea 13 Posted September 10, 2011 Well with my bariatric surgeons office, they have a print out they give the insurance company that shows my weight, bmi, and other factors that prints out on this special scale. Dont ask what it is but I had to stand on this scale barefoot and it printed out all this information the scale got from the bottom of my feet. I guess for proof of what my real weight and bmi is. happy1957 138 Posted September 10, 2011 I met the current Aetna requirement of 40 on my insurance, but it had to be steady for 24 months so I was denied. I had of course dieted during that time and fell below. I need to maintain the 40 until next year, but will appeal.
