echooo 0 Posted September 9, 2011 I finally have saved the money that I need to have my surgery. The surgeons office is willing to finance the last $500 I need to have the surgery. Now that I know that it can happen soon, I have started to feel guilty. I am clearing out ALL my savings. My husband is paying all the bills alone and plus christmas is coming and my dughters bday. I see all the things that my money could be use for. I know that if I use all my saving, everthing is going to be really tight until tax time. I don't want to have to wait that long. I could be half way to goal by then. I am unemployed so I don't have much income coming in and I know that my daughters are looking forward to christmas. I really want this for myself but like always I see the needs of other people more important than mine. A way has been made for me to have this surgery and have that confidence that I want but I don't want to put my family in a bind due to my selfishness. Have anybody ever felt like this and what decision did you make?

No, there is really nothing wrong with that... until YOU become affected. By that I mean your health, even mentally. Give your Hubby and children the best gift ever this CHRISTmas... that would be a long, fulfilling life with you. *hugs*
echooo 0 Posted September 9, 2011 Thank you Lilmissdiva I know this surgery is going to make me a better mother and a better wife. Thats why I want it so bad because I can give my kids the mother they never had. One that can run with them and play with them. I am just scare of the financial struggle that may or may not lie ahead.

Remember too that you will save money in other areas, such as eating less food, less medical costs... and many other things, so it will likely balance itself out. Especially since, as you mentioned it will get better after tax refunds, etc. That's really only about 6 months from now, and trust me that will go really fast. A New Day 5 Posted September 9, 2011 I am in the same boat except I am putting the entire cost on a 0% interest credit card and plan to pay it off at tax time. I also have moments when I think i am being selfish by doing this. But then I realize the surgery is not only for me but will benefit my entire family. (((hugs)))
Shoppingbeemom 31 Posted September 9, 2011 I have felt this too. I agree with littlemissdiva you will save money in the long run of years and years of eating properly, health improvement ( even if you don't have problems now long term weight gain is hard on a body) and think of the thin person inside. Do you ever see who you can be? That person can do more, can't they?
KellyL 173 Posted September 10, 2011 It's not being selfish, it's an investment in our health and future. And also, we SHOULD love and care for ourselves as we would love and care for our family. And it truly does benefit the whole family when we become happier and healthier. I am much more active already, and we do a lot more family type activities. And I am only half way or so to goal. My type 2 diabetes is cured or "in remission". This surgery could have very well prevented me from having limbs amputated, going blind, stroke, heart attack, dying. My quality of life has already improved so much, can't wait to see how much more it will improve when I reach goal.
PhatGurl80 26 Posted September 10, 2011 I went through the guilt too. Heck I have a wedding to pay for yet I'm spending $5k in cold hard cash to have this surgery. But then I thought about it....If I added up the cost every weightloss gimmick, plan, diet foods, gym memberships, Dr. Appts, prescriptions, spent so far in my adult life - I KNOW I've spent 3 times as much. I think now the decision is a no Brainer.
