Protein drinks bothering stomach

Recommended Posts

I have always liked Protein Shakes and drank them before surgery. I am 10 days post-op and when I start drinking one I get nauseous and have to choke it down. Anyone else have this? Any suggestions? I can get some Protein from food but I am still on muahies.

I'm 18 days out & have the same problem. I mix whey shakes with fat free milk & can only tolerate a very small drink at a time. I've just been forcing myself to take small sips throughout the day, it eventually adds up. I'm also to the point where I can have pureed food but none of it other than cottage cheese or yogurt goes down very well.

I was at my support group last night and this same topic came up. Here are 2 suggestions: you could be lactose intolerant, try lactaid, soy or almond milk, or you could be allergic to whey Protein, try switching to soy. Good luck.

I bought some milk called Silk today and I was able to put it down a lot easier. But I am getting very sick and tired of sweet stuff!! I'm gonna have to try that chicken stuff, where do you get it???

GNC has a lactose free shake with 25 grams of Protein. Might be worth a try? The first while I could only tolerate clear Protein drinks, now I can drink any kind.

Since my last post on this thread I have found a 46 gram whey protein shot (3.9 oz) at GNC. Been drinking one of those a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
