Any Success Stories After a Real Slow Start?

Recommended Posts

I need some reassurance, please.

If you had a very slow start and then pulled through down the road or know of this, PLEASE, PLEASE post!!!

I was down 7lbs since surgery on 8/25 but am now up a .5lbs. So it's a total of 6.5lbs.

My husband cannot stand the Diva Hysterics any longer and as of this morning has hidden the scale.

The hubby through his back out and I had to take him to see his doc on Wednesday. I was explaining my situation and the tiny weight loss.

He asks me what I have been cheating and/or binging on??!!?? I told him I am still on full liquids and take in (maybe) 500 calories a day if I am lucky so there is no cheating.

These kinds of comments make me sooooo mad!! I have been judged my entire life over my weight and now this?

Couldn't tell I had lost anything but I am on the 3 rd week.

And wearing pants that are 1 and 2 sizes smaller than I

Started out with. Now I have not weighed my self so

I don't have a clue how much I have lost I am trying not

To worry about the pounds right now

My doctor told me I shouldn't weigh myself until a month after surgery. I didn't listen of course & when I got home from the hospital, I was up almost 10 pounds! That took a week to go away (it was Water weight from surgery) & then during the 3rd week, I didn't lose a pound (very common. If you search 3 week stall, you'll find a ton of posts about this.) Let me just encourage you to not focus overly much on how much you lose this first month. It is not an indicator of how things are going to go for you. Plus, even if you only lose 10 pounds a month, in a year you will have lost 100 pounds! Just focus on eating how you are supposed to & letting your body heal. The weightloss will come!

Hey!

Please try not to worry about those pesky scales... After 6mths my weight loss has slowed down to a snail's pace... but I am still losing. I am 14mths out and my weight is still going down, albeit slowly. I have come to realise that different people will lose at different rates, and that is absolutely fine with me as long as I get to where I want to be, Yes, I have to work at it and take on board good food choices which I do 95% of the time. Regardless of whether I do high or low carb, up or lower my exercise, increase my Water etc my weight loss pace does not change, so now, I stick to the guidelines and wait for my body to get rid of the fat at its own pace.

I like to think I am a success story... I'm down 70lb and that is 70% of my excess - my personal goal - and more for my surgeon's goal...

Keep doing what you are doing, follow the guidlines and work through each eating phase and you will see a difference. Let your body and mind recover from this major operation and most of all, be kind to yourself!

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress...

The dreaded scales.... one of the worse things we can do to ourselves is be on those scales too often. It is so hard to stay away, but please try!!!

I started off only weighing myself once a week and I am soooo thankful!

I am now at almost 3 months out and for a long time, I felt as though I was a slow loser....sometimes I still do. I'm now on my 3rd stall. But I'm already past my 3 month goal which was to lose 35% of my excess weight. That would have been 52.5 lbs. I'm now down 55 lbs. and still have about 2 weeks to go before I hit 3 months. Try not to get discouraged...I know that's hard because I get frustrated and discourage myself, even knowing all that I know at this point about stalls and such. At my last nutritional class, my dietitian gave me a whole new perspective on things. If you want to read about it, here it is: http://sliceofhealthyplease.blogspot.com/2011/08/excess-weight-and-goals-and-am-i-really.html

I hope this helps to encourage you! I was ready to throw my scale out the window and sometimes I still think that the dang thing is broken but eventually it starts going down and then I love my scale!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
