savinggrace 6 Posted September 9, 2011 Hey all, 10 days post op and have been having intense muscle cramps. Several times a day. Started yesterday. Back and legs are where they occur. I don't know if I am doing wrong. I am taking my Vitamins daily as prescribed, drinking lots of Water, my other oral intake is cream Soups, Jello, diluted sugar free apple juice, yogurt whip, and pudding once a day. Protein Shakes times 2 a day. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any one know? Ideas? Thank you =)
Orangina 1 Posted September 9, 2011 Grace I am no expert however i do know muscle cramps are for me related to Calcium intake. You may want to call your physicians office to inquire.
KristeyK 3 Posted September 9, 2011 You could still be dehydrated. Also, are you taking your Iron and Calcium at the same time, or within a couple hours of each other? If so, that could be a MAJOR culprit. (They should be take about 4 hours apart. I take my Ca in the morning and my Iron at night, just makes it easier. ) It could also be low potassium. (Still trying to figure out how to up that since I can't eat sweet potatoes or bananas yet myself.) If it's none one of those, call your Dr. Could be an electrolyte imbalance. (Which is relatively easy to fix.)
savinggrace 6 Posted September 9, 2011 Ty for the replies. I do take calcium600mg twice a day, and Centrum Multivitamin twice a day. Do I still need to take more Iron? My mom is a nurse and she told me to go to the store and get a prenatal Vitamin to add to my diet. Does that sound right? I am sorry I didn't realize taking the Vitamins together were wrong, I just went by what I was told. I wil take them at different times now and see if that helps. I do know I am supposed to be taking in atleast 48oz of fluids a day, thusfar I can take in 48-58 oz. I am constantly sipping Water. Dehydration, eeeks. Maybe I will call my doctor. I don't like to be dehydrated. Thanks for the input. These muscle spasms hurt.
