Did the liquid diet make you sleepy? Today is my second day and I am having a hard time fighting the exhaustion. Could it be because I am consuming less? I am BEAT!!!

Today is my second day too and I am EXHAUSTED! I thought it was due to the EGD I had yesterday and the "happy juice" they gave me in the hospital. I've already taken a nap and want to go back to bed and it's only 1pm! I hope this gets better.

This is my second day and I'm tired too. Worse than that, my head has been killing me today. It was so bad I couldn't concentrate at work. I found someone who had one Tylenol (cuz I can't take Advil before the surgery) and it finally went away, but I have no energy. I think it's sugar withdrawal. I know it's all going to be worth it come next Tuesday. I just keep telling myself that.

I called my nutritionist and she said if I don't regain my energy by tomorrow I can add a scoop of Protein to my drink.

The headache might be from caffeine withdrawals. I stopped all caffeine years ago and the headaches were horrid.

I have been exhusted since starting the liquids too. I can handle the hunger but my diet is under 800 calories which includes 3 protien drinks and two yogurts and Jello. Under normal circumstances, I don't think a dr would never prescribe a diet that low in calories. I'm just sucking it up and accepting that I am exhusted and moving on. I hope this improves after surgery.

@SittingPretty, I think I may have to do a Protein shake because I'm not meeting my high Protein quota on the pre-op liquid diet. I did 3 Slim Fast yesterday (690 total calories and 30 grams of protein) and a yogurt (80 calories and 5 grams of protein). The nutritionist said I need between 40-70 grams of protein a day and between 1000-1200 calories a day. The thing is, I've been opting for sleep to the point that I haven't been drinking the Slim Fast or eating anything at night. I think I have a packet of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury which is 20 grams of protein, I'll drink that instead of one of the cans of Slim Fast.

All th best to you!

Niki

@MelissaG, the nutritionist said most headaches while on the pre-op liquid diet are from caffeine withdrawl. If they haven't gone away, they should by Day 4 -- hopefully. I hope you feel better soon!

Be well,

Niki

Good luck to all having surgery tomorrow.

I remember the tiredness, take advantage of the sleep if you can. I agree with the caffeine and sugar being it. I was fortunate to be able to have three shakes a day, and one round meal a day. No sugar or caffeine. I still lost a good bid of weight prior to surgery, I was nervous after doing all that work they were going to turn me away. It does go away, and you do get your energy back. Hang in there. Saving seats for you all. :)

I'm on day 6 of the pre-op diet and the second day kicked my butt. By brain was not working at 100% and driving home, I ran a red light.

It gets a little easier. My surgery is in the morning so I'm on my last day.

One tip. DON'T GO TO THE GROCERY STORE or GO OUT TO EAT! My wife is out of town and I have been cooking for the kids and had to run to the store. That was torture. My wife just came home with some candy for the kids and my boy has been tormenting me with a piece of chocolate. He is such a little stinker.

You can also get a a headache from Ketones, While on any low carb high protien diet you will eventually go into Ketosis and your body will start burning fat versus sugars. The by -product of this are ketones, which can cause a severe headache for up to 7 days... Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
