Having trouble getting food down!!! Help!

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks out as of Friday and yesterday and today have been quite difficult in just plain eating. I have been eating fine for a couple of weeks and haven't changed what I am eating. I still chew, chew, chew but everything seems to just sit in my chest. It never comes up. As a matter of fact, I haven't thrown up at all with my sleeve. I get in everything I need and the tight feeling in my upper chest eventually goes away but for some reason this is happening every time I eat. What is going on? Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had that too when I went to solids. It is just that you are still swollen in there and you need to find other things to eat.

Is it everything makes you feel that way or just certain things?? For me chicken and eggs were the WORST! They sat in my throat for hours. I never puked either, but sure wanted to, to make that feeling go away!

Try things that are less dense, that will help, if it doesn't, go back a food stage for a day or two and then try introducing a food or two again. That is what I did.

So, disclaimer here, I HAVE NOT HAD THE SURGERY YET, but I have seen what you're going through here on the boards many, many times. Almost everyone I have read that had this problem slowly realized they were eating too fast. Not inhaling their food, but just not realizing how slow they really need to eat. You say you're chewing, chewing, chewing and that's good! Maybe take a break between bites, go REALLY slow and stop before you even feel a little bit full?

Just a thought....like I said, I haven't had my surgery yet, but I've seen this so many times on here, often with a forehead slap

Kelly,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it is EVERYTHING I eat. It's awful. I am planning on having Tilapia for dinner so hopefully it won't happen with that. We'll see.

Soon2BMiniMommy,

I will definitely try that. I know that I'm not shoveling food in my mouth by any means but that conscious effort to eat slower does seem to have vanished a bit. I will keep it in mind for my dinner tonight. Sometimes it takes a little reminding every now and them.....THANKS for the reminder.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
