How much lost on 14-day pre-op liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

In preparation for surgery on 9/19, I started my pre-op liquid diet this past Sunday. In the past 3 days, I have lost an additional 8 lbs. This takes my total to 30lbs. It is really starting to show, and I was able to wear some clothes yesterday that I haven't worn in over a year.

Knowing everybody is different and loses at different rates, how much weight did you lose during the pre-op liquid diet?

It is definitely getting easier. The second day was the worst ... I threatened to bully my two-year old for his Beans and franks

My pre-op diet was 2 weeks - first week one lean, green, meal was allowed; second week, just fluids.

Lost: 10 lbs.

At my initial consult, I weighed in at 411 lbs. That day, I changed my lifestyle habits ... use smaller plates, reasonable portions, better dining out options. I lost 22 lbs prior to my pre-op liquid diet, and have lost another 8 lbs in the first 3 days of the diet. I was at 381 lbs this morning.

I lost 20 lbs on my pre-op diet. It was supposed to be 2 weeks of all Clear Liquids and sugar-free jell-o, but it ended up being 8 days of 3 Protein Shakes and at least 50oz of Water during the day and a smaller portion meal at night and 6 days of all liquids (the six days right before surgery). I would have lost more weight if I had followed my doctors 14-day liquid diet, but, he said my liver was nicely shrunken so I was happy with what I did. Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
