I just have some questions

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was sleeved on 8/26, and I am about 11 days out. I am just having a few issues, my first one is that my incisions were sealed up with that dermabond stuff, and I am getting little sore, itchy red bumps all around the incisions, I called my doc's office and they haven't called back yet <_< So I'm just wondering if this is typical, like a contact reaction to the dermabond, or is it something I should be worried about?

My second issue is that it seems that I am constantly nauseated, I am nauseous after I drink Water, after I eat, if I don't put anything in my tummy, I am just constantly nauseous. I was finally able to start going to the bathroom yesterday, so I thought maybe that was why I was nauseous, but it's still hanging around today. I took my prilosec this morning and I feel awful like I wanna puke. Idk what is causing this, but it is incredibly frustrating. I am on full liquids till next Monday, then I start on purees. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this?

Lastly, I weighed myself yesterday and I had only lost 1lb since Fri, and that doesn't seem like a big deal I guess, but last week I was losing at least a lb a day, if not more! Did I do something wrong, or is this normal?

Thanks in Advance for any advice!!

Sarah

My doctor prescibed me generic zofran for nausea and its great stuff! I can take it every 6 hours for nausea. I only take it in the mornings with my acid reducer though.. I dont seem to need it in the afternoons yet. It was a lifesaver for me. Ask your doctor for it.

Ok, thanks!! Did you have dermabond too?

yes, I had dermabond too. I also had steristrips on top of that. They turned red around them and burned so my doctor took them off at two weeks. The glue from the strips and the dermabond just turned black and was sticky like tape. It didnt get red bumps on it. I finally got it all off after another week. Good luck to you on that. I hated it.

Ok, I really hope I can get in touch with my doc, I don't think I need to go to the ER, but it is definitely uncomfortable.

You might be developing an allergy to the glue. I dont think its serious, just seriously annoying!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
