Too much weight too soon?

Recommended Posts

I had the vertical sleeve operation June 24, 2011 (I weighed 128.7 kilograms = 283.734931 pounds). As of today, September 6, 2011, I weigh (95.3 kilograms = 210.100536 pounds). After the first day after surgery, I had little pain and was able to begin exercising. I jog 3-6 kilometers (2-4 miles) a day and started weight training last week. I eat far less than 500 calories a day, mainly because I just don't have an appetite...and the feeling of digestion feels uncomfortable to me. I mostly eat Protein, Beans (pinto and black), eggs, canned tuna, grits recently, canned chicken breasts, cheese, blended frozen bananas with skim milk, and lots of Water. I stay away from breads and carbs, except wheat, and I eat Proteins for Snacks...though I rarely snack. Am I losing too much weight too quickly? At this rate, I would be at my goal weight in 6 weeks or so. Four months and losing over 120lbs can't be healthy, but I look great and feel OK.

I live in Korea and had my surgery here (much cheaper, like $7000 USD, including drugs and hospital stay). I will be consulting my doc in another month or so, as I am scheduled to do...Should I keep up this pace or slow down? Even though my doctor speaks English, maybe he isn't talking to me enough? He says I was not quite at the level of obesity to have this surgery to begin with. What should I do? I have always had an irregular heartbeat, but I feel fine and am able to jog and do exercise well.... Opinions, advice, what has your doctor said about weight loss? Why is losing weight so quickly bad for the heart?

I think it is great that you are losing weight. My concern is that you are eating so few calories. Most of us have to be around 500 immediately after surgery, but once you are a month or so out, I think you are supposed to go up to 800-1200 a day. How are you getting in 60 g of Protein on so little? I understand about not having an appetite, but my doc says that even if I'm not hungry, it is important that I eat every couple of hours to get my metabolism reved back up. I would consult with your doctor.
