Me and my daughter just had surgery on july 13 and i am having thoughts of sadness or that maybe I made the wrong decision for her and I. I have been reading some of the post on this web site and I a little scared of all of the problems people are having . I thought that I had researched it better. but now i am freakin out. Is this normal to feel this way?:cry

There are a lot of success stories so focus on them. Congratulations on being banded.

It can definately be overwhelming to look at all that can go wrong, but just like other aspects in life you cannot focus your precious time and energy on what can happen.

I have been slow in my journey with my band to get positive results, but I am really working to keep myself and my health at the forefront of my day.

I think that you should be proud of yourself that you took a positive step towards your health, and most of all that you love your daughter enough to seek out help for her with her weight struggles.

If my daughter was obese then I would do whatever it took to get her help, just like you did for your daughter.

I always say- the complications and risks of having health problems and diseases when I was obese were far more dangerous than the risks the band presents.

Problems with the band can be resolved one way or another. Focus on your weight loss. You made the right decision!

I was scared before and shortly after surgery as well. Once you have some time to adjust to all of the changes you'll probably feel differently. It took me a few weeks and now I'm totally at peace with my decision and feel good about it. Happy Healing!

Plus....feelings of "sadness" & depression are apparently very common side effects to having anesthesia (sp?)....I went through a real blue/down period after I had surgery...lasted a couple of weeks. I felt better about it once I found out it may only be a side effect.

It will get better and the feelings will likely pass!

Hang in there and remember you did do the research and you did make the right choice for you or you wouldn't have done it!

thanks to all of you that replied to my post. it made me feel much better. i am feeling sooooo much better today my incisions feel better and i physically and emotionally feel better. you are all right positive positive positive. I also talked to my daughter and told her how i was feeling and she said to me " mom any adversity that i might have with the band would be much better than the life that i was living before the band." i also talked to a girlfriend of mine who is also banded and she said everything that i was feeling was normal and it will get better. so thanks again to all of you!!!!!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
