Need support...10 days out

Recommended Posts

I converted from the lap band to the sleeve, and am 10 days out. Honestly, the recovery for the band was worse than the recovery for the sleeve has been. I have not had nearly any pain and very little discomfort.

I didn't think I would be hungry, but can swear I have felt this way a few times. I am having trouble staying on the liquid diet, as I want more. I realize this is a big mind game, but I am ready for something of substance. Currently, I am doing Tomato Soup and applesauce as my meals. I have caught myself eating more than 4 oz, I didn't think I would even have the appetite to get that much down. I feel as though I need something else to eat to be satisfied and have caught myself in the pantry getting a little spoon of Peanut Butter and "sneaking" it. I have had no trouble getting it down, I just feel as though I want more. I know once I start the stage II diet, it will be much better. I am just ready to be off the liquids as it is really getting to me.

Did anyone else feel this way? I thought for sure I wouldn't even have the want to eat...but that is totally not the case.

I'm the same exact way, and sleeved 11 days ago. I thought I wouldn't be hungry. Sadly, I am. And sadly, the 1/3 cup of Soup I'm eating is not cutting it. I've also sneaked few spoonfuls of Peanut Butter as well as an extra serving of yogurt here or there. Oh, this is probably bad, but I've also eaten a piece or two of string cheese, chewed up really really well.

I know a LOT of it is in my mind, but not all. I'm fairly disappointed that I'm still hungry, sometimes even wondering if my surgeon really did the operation! I also haven't had any problem getting my liquids in. I just try to drink more liquids, drink my Protein, and distract myself when I feel hungry. Sometimes I'll just take a nap so I don't have to think about it. I've been told it gets better when we get advanced to solid foods. I'm not sure if that includes the purees or not. I'm sooooo looking forward to purees! Well, I'd rather just skip to solids, but I'm just eager to get out of the soup stage. And I've been varying my Soups too - egg drop (not satisfying), cream of mushroom (nice and thick - homemade too!), butternut squash, coconut and red curry chicken bisque (courtesy of Safeway). Maybe I've been making my diet too interesting!

Oh, and I am taking my PPI, which maybe helps, but I'm still getting hungry.

hang in there, the next stage is just around the corner!

My sister, who was sleeved in April, STRUGGLED greatly until she was able to progress to solids. She said she could have eaten all day if she had allowed herself to do so. I'm also 11 days out and have a VERY hard time. I did sneak in a little Soup for the first time today, and it did the trick. (Otherwise, I'm ONLY allowed Protein shakes. I am SO SICK of anything sweet I could scream.)

Part of what kept me on my Protein Shakes, and what will continue to make me do so, is that scale. It has moved quite nicely over the past 11 days, and I very much want to keep it that way. :D

Good luck!

I'm almost 4 weeks out. I just tried a soft scrambled egg for the first time today and also made chicken salad with canned chicken - this was the first day I actually felt a feeling of "fullness." During my full liquids stage I measured everything because I never noticed that I got full. Of course, I never really felt hungry either so I had to remind myself to eat.

A lot of people have said that the hunger feeling could be an overabundance of stomach acid . . . are you taking a PPI (like Nexium, Prilosec, etc.)?

I too felt hunger before my soft solids started at 2 weeks post op. I think that this is pretty normal. I guess I was lucky that I was cleared to eat soft foods so early after surgery. Once I was able to eat I felt much more satisfied and didn't have the hunger or appetite issues as much. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just stick with your surgeon's plan! Good luck to you!

Thanks, everyone. I am sure that once I am actually able to CHEW something, I will feel a lot better. I have noticed that I've got reflux...been getting the burning in the throat, which I have never had before. I take something as needed, but form the sounds of it you all take something daily. I will try that, I have some Zantac.

As for the Protein, I haven't been doing that as much as I shall. I have now become lactose intolerant (hopefully this will pass with time, I hear it does). I had been doing the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, and liked it (Chocolate). But now, even with Lactose free milk, it is just not the same. Upsets my stomach and it is hard for me to bring myself to drink it.

What Protein works for you? I am open to suggestions!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
