Question for those who have had a breast reduction

Recommended Posts

My insurance has approved me to have a breast reduction. I have 50 more pounds to loose until I am at my goal of 150 lbs. My LB surgeon has advised me to wait until I reach goal. I'm afraid that if I don't do it now I won't meet the requirements for the insurance to pay for it. I go to the chiropractor every other week because of pain in my back and shoulders. My question is, how much sagging occurred for those who had the reduction and then lost weight? Mine hang to my waist now, so it seems that any sagging would be better than what I have now.

Seems to me, if you had it done now, and there was any sagging to follow on the last 50 pounds, it would be minimal, and since you aren't 20 anymore (me either!!!), some sagging would be expected. I will have mine as soon as I think the majority of the weight it gone. My back deserves it ASAP!!!

Good Luck, and congrats on being so close to goal!!!

Kat

Well I guess I am on the other side of the fence. I had it done, and lost 60 pounds recently and I feel like I am ready wet socks on my chest. I would suggest waiting.

I had a breast reduction 5 years before my lap band, and I'm so glad I did. At least there is one part of my body that isn't sagging to the floor! LOL. they have gotten awfully flat, tho, so I am probably going to have implants and some revisions done later this year But I'm really glad I had the reduction done earlier.

I had a reduction/lift in March and if it was me I would do it now to make it much easier for yourself as you lose the rest of your weight. If it came down to it that they were saggy again after the loss it would probably be minimal and would be fixed with small revisions.

I had mine reduced on july 31. It was same day surgery and 2 days later I was up and working again. Had a relapse though and am trying to take it easier. Nobody said anything about the icky yellow stuff that comes out for weeks afterward. I went back to the doc yesterday and he took out most of my stitches. I am back on a liquid antibiotic b/c pills are a challenge. Although I am more than thrilled with the new look I am still in quite a bit of discomfort. Thank god for grown up liquid tylenol. It knocks me out though.

The up side is that I feel 14 again. I can not get over the new boobs. I know that the scars will fade with time but it still looks harsh. By the way, some people said that they lost sensitivity in their breasts. Mine are more sensitive than ever. In fact, before they were a dead zone. Go figure.

When will I feel normal again and stop leaking gunk????:

I had reduction surgery when I was 50 lbs lighter, now I'm at 205 and need to lose 75. I hope everything stretches back to be look somewhat appealing. For best results, don't opt to do the keyhole method, do the newer method with fewer stitches on the top of the breast. Don't remove the bandages or stitches too early. Also, I suggest you wear scar solution silicone bandaids for a long time to help reduce scarring. I had 3lbs lifted off my chest and I didn't find any big difference on the stress or wieght on my back after surgery but was pleased with the results anyways. Good luck! Susan

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
