vluckey 1 Posted July 15, 2006 I've lost 60 lbs and bam! I'm pregnant. I kinda expected this because I got pregnant 4 years ago when I lost 50 lbs. I'm excited because this time I wont gain all my weight back like I did last time. So, here's my question. I'm not sure about whether I should unfill or not. My band doctor said check with my OB/GYN. I can't get to her for another 2 weeks. Besides, most other doctors really don't understand lapband. I'm thinking I should get at least a partial unfill. I was finally in a pretty restricted, but not overly restricted place with my band. (After 5 fills and 3 unfills). I really can't eat anything but pretty soft food until night time. I didn't gain hardly any weight last time I was pregnant, I gained afterwards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! We're so excited! After this one I can lose the rest of my weight and get that tummy tucked!!!!
Mvpo8961 1 Posted July 15, 2006 No advice but definite congratulations. When will you be due? Myra
leatha_g 4 Posted July 15, 2006 Another bandster here recently posted that she never did get an unfill and everything went perfectly for her as well. I would think as long as you can eat healthy foods and healthy portions you'd be okay, but of course, consult your physicians. God bless and congrats!! vluckey 1 Posted July 16, 2006 I just found out on Wednesday that I'm pregnant. I can't get in to my doctor for 2 weeks. I have no clue as to how far along I am. I'm thinking around 4-6 weeks. I've not always had regular cycles so I've not gotten in the habit of keeping track. Stupid me.
hootiebelle 0 Posted July 16, 2006 If I am not mistaken your Dr Curry posts on this board as Dr. C ........... isn't this him? http://lapbandtalk.com/member.php?u=7962
Elisabethsew 50 Posted July 16, 2006 As an RN I can tell you that most OB/GYNs want the band totally unfilled for the last 5 months of the pregnancy. Check and see what YOURS wants and go with that advice.
vluckey 1 Posted July 17, 2006 yep, Dr. C is my doctor. I love him!
Apryl Showers 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Congratulations! I just found out that I am pregnant too...hmm...wonder if it's something in the water...ha ha...anyway...I spoke with my Ob/Gyn today and he has never even heard of the band and kinda freaked out and had me contact a nutritionist. I am scheduled for an unfill mainly because I am suddenly really tight and have been having problems getting things down. I usually consume around 1000 calories a day which I know is way too low for pregnancy. Keep us posted on what your doctor tells you....and good luck! vluckey 1 Posted July 19, 2006 Yep, I'm calling for my unfill today. My husband kinda insisted. I'm kinda glad. He told me to consult my ob/gyn, but most doctors I've come across have no idea what a lapband is, so I'm just going to do this...
the best me 6 Posted July 19, 2006 Good girl. Congratulations! And you, too Apryl! More Band Babies! Yippeee!!!
Apryl Showers 0 Posted July 19, 2006 I find it so strange that there are so many doctors who don't know what the band is.
vluckey 1 Posted July 21, 2006 I'm not surprised. The more doctors I've come acrossed, the more I realize that they really don't know as much about most things as we think they should. I've really become a health advocate for me and my family because most doctors don't reach outside of the typical areas of specialty they are in. For example, when I became pregnant 4 years ago, I developed "gestational diabetes". They wanted to immediately put me on insulin shots. I told them no way! I wanted at least one week to manage it with diet and checking my blood 4 times a day. End result..... no shots, and no need for them. My baby was perfect, 7lbs 8oz. Another girl I worked with started taking glucofage for gd. She was passing out in her car. I HATE prescription drugs and do anything to avoid them. Most docs just want to give you a pill. Right now I'm being treated for vocal cord polyps and nodules. I probably had them before the band, but having the band probably aggivated it because of reflux when I'm too tight. What did they precribe? Nexium. Result, super constipated. I'd rather be hoarse.
