Hi ! I'm brand new here and just found this site. I just returned from having my surgery with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. I can not say enough about my experience! I was so scared and couldn't believe that I was really going to Mexico to have surgery. I almost backed out. I'm so happy I didn't! Dr. Kellly was so kind and understanding. He made me feel that I had made the right decision. My surgery went off without a hitch.

Dr. Romero was so wonderful too! He came to visit me at my hotel and talked to me for about 2 hours. Then he came back the next day!. I was having a little bit of trouble taking in enough liquids so he told me to make sure I sip, sip, sip all day long! Some of the others went out shopping, but Dr. Romero suggested that I not do that because it was very warm. Dr. Kelly agreed. He said he prefers that his patients not go out on long shopping trips after surgery. I'm doing fine now and have moved on to thick liquids.

If anyone wants more information about me or Dr. Kelly I will be happy to chat with you! Now starts the journey!

Hello, and congratulations! I would love to chat with you. I am considering going to Dr. Kelly as well, but I am terrified. I've never even flown before, let alone go to Mexico to have surgery. If I go I don't want to go alone, but then again I don't want the person I take to be bored while I sleep. Did you go alone? And who did you go through to get in touch with him?

I went alone and was scared too! But once I got there I was put as ease. Ricardo picked me up at the airport and was wonderful! He took me directly to the hospital and helped me check in. He gave me a survival bag with chap stick, glycerin swabs (which was a God send right after surgery!), Gatorade, Water and other liquids for my time at the hotel. Once at the hospital I met Dr. Kelly. He came in and spent a lot of time with me putting me at ease. I also called both Sandy and Linda about a hundred times too! They too were very patient with me and told me that Dr. Kelly and Dr. Romero will take good care of me and they did! Dr. Romero will give you a phone number to reach him if you have questions or need anything. Once you get home he also emails you a questionnaire asking you about your eating habits and food and helps you work on your new diet needs! Once I went back to the hotel I not only had Dr. Kelly and Dr. Romero visit me, but I also made friends with 2 other sleeve sisters! You will be fine and not regret your decision!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
