So Sunday at church a friend and I are talking about how my weightloss Is effecting areas of my life and another acquaintance walks up and says, "wow you are looking great! What have you been doing?" So I tell him I had wls, so he says

"oh, well you look good, but I don't believe in that". So I simply looked him in the eye and said, yeah, that's often how those who have not taken the time to actually be inform about it feel, kinda like not believing in sending a cancer patient to a doctor" smiled and continued my conversation. After a few minutes he says' "

well u look great, and I suppose like you said I really am not informed about it, I suppose I should be if I'm gonna comment.

So I just replied that while like other medical proceedures it is not the right path for everyone, and each person has to come to their own decision about it and what is best for them.

Sorry if I offend but I find that Christians are one of the most close minded people in the world - and I AM one!

I was reminded of this verse before I had my WLS: Mark 9:43 "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:"

While being obese it certainly is not prohibiting us from eternal life it IS keeping us from living a longer healthier life and certainly from enjoying the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us. So if being obese is severely hindering you from a happy, active, responsible, healthy life then CUT IT OFF! Literally!

Well done, Pasquini. Unfortunately, ignorance is bliss as they say, I say it should be painful, this way maybe people will stop and think before doing or saying things that show just how ignorant they are.

Actually I didnt find it closed minded. Just ignorance, and typical of someone that is retired army and never been overweight a day in his life. Lol

Its funny to me how he said he didnt believe in that when he was staring at you and saying you looked great. Its not the tooth fairy! You are living proof that this surgery works as a great tool for people to use. When they invented the wheel, did someone say.. hey it works great but I dont believe in that and go on carrying everything on his back... just a stupid thought I had....lol.

Yeah actually I thought the same thing when he said it. I almost said yeah I get that I don't believe in Santa clause. But decided the humor would be lost. :-).

Sadly, it would have been lost on him it sounds like. I think he got the picture when he said he should be informed before commenting. Maybe that will be a lesson to him. Congratulations on your weight loss!

As someone who's been fat all my life, I have to say that even I didn't believe in weight loss surgery until this summer! Then I started reading about it and talking to my friends who have had it, and finding out that most of my prior thoughts were misconceptions. I felt a huge loyalty to Weight Watchers, which I now realize is not the answer for me since I have been on it many times in the past 30 years. I thought my doctor would give me a hard time about having the surgery but he was very supportive (so,,,,why didn't he ever mention it as an option for me????)....I've had 3 people tell me that they didn't think I was overweight enough for WLS (My BMI is 42.7!!! - maybe they were trying to pay me compliments!)....and I've got a super supportive family. So I went to the seminar and have an appointment at the WLS group in 12 days. Can't wait!

I think the answer you gave to the negative commenter was great in that it informed him that he really doesn't know what he thinks he knows about it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
