Always talk to your surgeon since this varies depending on sleeve pouch. Great to hear you are wanting to excercise...rooting for your weight loss and a speedy recovery.

Talk to your surgeon. I was instructed only walking was allowed for the first 6 weeks after surgery. After that, I started light lifting and cardio. I am 8 weeks out and still take it easy but I increase my workouts gradually every week. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I wonder too. I had surgery last week Monday Aug 22nd and was told 4 weeks. But honestly I get tired just going up 3 flights of stairs at school (college).

I started biking at 3 weeks post op. (Tuesday!) Just about 5 miles at like 8mph on flat bike paths. It feels great! I plan to go again tonight.

After my surgery I had a 10 post op visit and then went back 3 weeks later. It was then that my doctor told me I could do anything that was not discomforting. I walked, did Water aerobics, and did weight machines.

I'm hoping to be cleared at my post-op visit on the 15th. I've been trying to walk about 2 miles a day . . . it got really hot here the past few days and I didn't walk today, and I'm feeling restless and miss it!

This is what my surgeon told me:

I was told I could only walk for the first 6 weeks of surgery. But, I could start swimming once my incisions healed (15 days post-op). So, my main (and favorite!) form of exercise is swimming laps. I take my dogs out for a walk daily, too. I was suggested (by an outside source) that to speed my weight loss while I'm in this "honeymoon phase", I should use the treadmill on an incline and fast-pace to increase my heart rate. It's still low-impact, but is an actual work out. I've been too lazy to actually do that as of yet, but I plan on starting soon (I'm 20 days post-op).

6 weeks: I can lift weights that are 10-20lbs. 8 weeks, I can increase it to 20-30 lbs. 12 weeks, 30-50 lbs (like I'll ever be able to lift that much!).

8 weeks: I can use the elliptical trainer. That's my favorite piece of workout equipment! I can also start doing yoga at this point.

10 weeks: abdominal crunches, push-ups, sit ups, squats

12 weeks: pilates, aerobics, running, jazzercize

24 weeks: bowling

I hope this helps. Just like the pre-op and post-op diets, the exercise recommendations vary from surgeon to surgeon. I wish I could do more to work out at the moment, but I also don't want to rupture my pouch or tear open my incisions.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
