It is 3:30 in the morning and my right ear is screaming at me. I think I may have an ear infection. I just took some liquid tylenol and it seems to be working. If it doesn't get better I will go to the Urgent Care center tomorrow. My question is what antibiotics can I safely take with my new sleeve? I know some docs really dont know what to do with us so I want to be informed before I get something that could possibly make this worse. Thanks so much!

I don't think you will have a problem with antibiotics unless you can't swallow pills, and then you could have a liquid.

I haven't tried swallowing pills yet but I am going to ask if I can start. I have three small dose capsules that I take at night that I dont think I can stomach anymore.

That's the best part. Tell them u can't swallow pills yet and the y will inject u. Saves u from taking horse pills for 10 days.

I was on 3 HUGE antibiotics following a 2nd hospitalization post-revision. Cipro, Metronidazole and another that I can't remember off the top of my head, but NONE of them gave me issues except for a little "sterile" gut. My surgeon's recommendation for any type of antibiotic therapy is to ensure you are eating yogurt, or additional Probiotics to help prevent sterile gut.

The antibiotics can screw with the "good bacteria' of the gi tract which in turn can cause diarrhea and/or nausea.

Anytime my kiddo has been prescribed antibiotics, his peds doc suggests the same thing.

It is weird but when I woke up this morning the pain was gone. I have some post-nasal drip stuff happening today but no pain. I'm wondering if things weren't just all clogged up? Now that I think about it I went over the savannah river bridge a few times in the past couple of days because of a conference. My ears were constantly popping so it could also have been the pressure there. I don't do well with elevation changes.

Or I could just be a freak.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
