Well, I've done it now! I am officially scheduled for my surgery on Sept 22nd! I began with my first appointment mid-May and am already scheduled! (I could have done it a week sooner but had to push it back because my little one will be having her birthday party that weekend)

I am very excited and absolutely terrified! I have been reading like crazy trying to prepare myself for what is to come but still have some concerns. I am of course most concerned about getting back from surgery and to my family healthier than I went in! Also, and I know this sounds ridiculous, I'm kind of sad about food already. I live in south Louisiana and food and football are really big deals, particularly together! I know that is what got me here and am ready to move on but just cannot fathom not wanting all my favs again or having get togethers without all the yummies synonymous of the south!

Anyway- excuse the ramblings- just wanted to share my excitement and fear with people I know understand (even though I don't know you...yet!).

Thanks!

Hi There! How exciting for you! Congrats on getting a date! I was sleeved 4/19/11. Best decision I ever made. I thought I would really miss the food, but I don't because I still eat just about everything. I don't eat a lot of it, and that's the good part, and I get to eat what everyone else is eating. Of course, the junk food is a no no, but it was always a no no. Can I get it down? Absolutely! That's where you must stay strong. The sleeve helps because you don't have that gnawing hunger. I feel very satisfied, because I found out that you don't have to eat a great amount to enjoy the food. Anxiety about the procedure is very normal. I felt very much like you. Keep positive. Good luck!

Congrats on getting a date! We are really changing our relationship with food though. I am a little sad too, but it is about being healthier and happier.

CONGRATS!! Our dates are very close together :) I am on the 19th! You will do great! I'm not sure what I think of food right now. I've been on a seriously low-carb diet for three months so I've already had to cut out a lot. But I find that I don't crave them so much anymore. When they are in front of me if I have the "carbs" for the day i'll take a bite here or there. I'm actually finding that many things taste so different than I remember... and not in a good way!

I am trying to find other ways to "reward" or to "celebrate" than with food. For myself as well as for my 5 year old sister. It's hard but in the end it is going to be so worth it.

Congrats again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
