Hi, everyone my name is Rossy,

I am having the surgery September 8th, I am very confused and nervous. Basically all the people I know that had this surgery done, had the 2 weeks liquid diet prior to the surgery. To me is a little different they have ask me to do a 2 days diet, don't know why. Another thing is that I am very nervous thinking about the day of the surgery, I've been thinking about me sleeping for all that time, what if something goes wrong, how long is it going to take, is it going to be quick? etc.

Those are some of the questiions that I have.

Hi Rossy!! Welcome to the sleever's forum! I am glad you decided to join. Like I've told you before, it is very normal to feel anxiety over the surgery. You will phase a major change in your life. You will do well though!! Hang in there! :)

take your meds on time and and eat like your are told. I found that the sugar free popcicles are really a blessing. I just buy the cheap Walmart ones and they are great. i ate 10 a day while I was on liquids....and still eat 2-4 a day... as a matter of fact im going to ge one now....

good luck!

Now I want a popsicle too. :)

The surgery will be like the blink of an eye for you since you'll be under anesthetic, I think at most it only takes a couple hours. All the jitters you're feeling are completely normal!

I didn't have to do a 2-week pre-op diet either, my surgeon said they didn't feel like the liver reduction made much of a difference for them. I just had to do clears the day before surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
