Home from the hospital

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am home from the hospital. I had surgery on thursday the 25th. I weighed in at 292.2 before they preformed my surgery. It's been 4 days now and I weigh 289. It's challenging to get up and walk around because of the pain. But I am managing. I have been drinking nothing but liquids for the past serveral days. I don't feel so hungry right now. Just sore. I have been taking my medications like I am suppose to. But sometimes I feel a hick-up or burp come up and it really hurts. But if there is anyone out there with advise on how to get better can you please let me know. Thank you so much!

Not much you can do but stay on top of your pain meds. Sip,Sip,Sip, walk, rest, repeat. Keeping up on your pain meds and staying hydrated are your first priorites. Good luck!

Thank you so much ladies!! I really apprciate all the help. I have been taking my apin meds like normal. Well on a time routine my husband has been giving them to me. Just the liquid vicodine doesn't work much for pain. I have been walking and it just hurts. But the more walking will only help me in the end. I am excited to start my new life with my sleeve. I look forward to enjoying life for once! I really like this site because it's so hard to find people to talk to that have had the sleeve and not the ryn... or whatever that other one is. My husband has been helping me the most and I appreciate it so much. The only thing I don't like is the burps or the feeling of something coming up from my stomach being so small. It's so painful. But I am managing it. I have my two week follow up on the 7th. So I am looking forward to seeing my weight drop. Keep in touch to those that want to talk. I am available for a long time!! lol...

Did you call your doctor? Perhaps he can increase your pain med dose. It's very important to move and walk after any surgery. I'm sorry you're in so much pain!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
