Having a really hard time today

Recommended Posts

I am attending a state conference today and tomorrow. It has been a really tough day for me. I went in this morning and starting talking to vendors and all of a sudden...hot flash. I sat down in a remote corner continuously wiping sweat from my head. Once it felt like it passed, I decided that I could absolutely not wear my blazer jacket. The dress I was wearing had sleeves that were too short so I left and came home to change.

I changed into some khakis and a polo with the organization logo. I had an even farther walk in 94 degree 100 percent humidity weather than I did the first time I got to the conference. I made it in and sat in a really good session. Then we had the awards luncheon. I pushed my salad around my plate hoping no one noticed I wasn't eating. The second course comes and it looks fabulous. I couldn't eat it so I ate some of the gravy off the plate and pushed the rest around. Dessert was cheesecake with some strawberry sauce. I ate a little of the sauce and maybe half a dime size fork of the cheesecake.

I sat in another conference and a lovely lady I had been talking to all morning asked me if I enjoyed my food. I told her I had just had surgery and was on a liquid diet for a little while. Well, she is a REPORTER for the local paper. She took my picture for the paper as being a part of the conference. Well, I look ridiculous. My pants are hanging below my belly because I can't have anything tight around my incisions. The shirt looks like a tent. I feel sloppy.

After I left the conference I had to go to Target to get some stuff for the baby and my it was now 98 degrees with 100 percent humidity. I just wanted to drink and drink and drink and of course I can't. I am sitting here having a pity party knowing in 30 minutes I have to carry my fat hot a$$ back outside to go get the baby from daycare. Tomorrow I get to do it all over again.

This liquid phase may actually be the death of me. I think I need a good cry and I'll be back to my old self but today was pretty hard.

yes hang in there - you are one up on me, I am a week further out than you and still on FLMA. The littlest things wipe me out, I am not even ready to go back next week when I have to.

I'm SO with you, I have to go to an all-day sales meeting tomorrow and I'm sure I'll be extremely limited on what I can eat. I'm getting a little frustrated about this stage too, the days can't seem to pass quickly enough!

You are doing great. It may not seem like it now, but believe me you are. You had to deal with a lot and YOU DID. You handled each unpleasant circumstance that came up and you got through it all.

The liquid stage can be hard but it will be over soon. I was sleeved on July 18th. Each day gets better and better. Remember to sip all day. In that heat, you can become dehydrated very quickly, so sip, sip, sip. Can you take bottled Water into the sessions? That might help when going into the heat.

Remember to be good to yourself when you can. It does get better and before you know it, you will be able over the liquids and on to the next. Its a process and you seem to be doing great, even if you don't feel like it right now.

I'm so proud of you! You didn't have a hysterical melt-down. I might have! Be kind to yourself. You are doing a great job of making it through a super sucky time. Next summer this pain will be a distant memory and you will be a lot COOLER at your new, lower weight.

I'm wishing for a miracle-cooling trend for you tomorrow.

You're a trooper! That is a lot of things to have to deal with this soon and you got through it without having a meltdown!! I'm in SoCal and this heat is blistering right now, I cannot imagine having to walk in it, attend a conference, and then look after a small child in the evening. Wow, you deserve a medal!!!

Thanks. I did get through yesterday and felt TONS better today. That is until I decided to try ice cream this afternoon. Now I feel like crap. Too much sugar is my guess. Clammy, sweaty, nausea...the sleeve will make me never want to eat sweets again.

Wow, you have only been sleeved for a short time..... be careful not to push yourself too hard.. if you are on the liquid stage, drink, drink, drink,,,, you dont want to get dehydrated especially in that horrible heat you are facing... ((HUGS))

I feel bad for you, hang in there....

Slow down... Not only are you newly sleeved, but you have a baby? Good grief, I'm sweating just thinking about the state of your bod and hormones. Hope you are carrying a waterbottle and lots of crystal light packets or, better yet, something with electrolytes? Smart Water, gatorade?

I have the Gatorade G2 and Propel packets. Today at the luncheon, they had a Breakfast buffet with all kinds of juice, coffee, and baked goods. For lunch they had a grilled chicken wrap, potato salad, fruit, apple pie, and sweet tea. I spent a lot of time talking with people. I was also thinking of food I would be able to have later in the process. I figured the grilled chicken would be good and the fruit.

I wrote a letter to Gaby asking her about the heartburn. I am still having it even after a Nexxium in the morning and one at night. I'm sure they will get back to me soon.

I will put the baby to bed early tonight and go to bed early myself.

Our event was today. They had 'continental breakfast' and the pastries looked so good! :) I settled for a small chunk of banana and the babybel I had brought from home. For lunch they had an Italian buffet - seriously??!!?? I had about an ounce of mozzarella from the caprese salad and some of the minestrone broth and a few pieces of soft carrot. They brought in Cookies for lunch, and I had a small chunk (like 1/8th) of a Peanut Butter cookie; I made sure I had a piece with no nuts or anything. It tasted divine but I don't think my sleeve liked it . . . I felt a little funky afterwards for about 15 minutes.

Finally we had our after-hours event and dinner was from McAlister's Deli so there was a platter of wraps, fruits with fruit dip, potato chips (I seriously drooled!), potato salad and brownies/cookies. I had some of the potatoes from the potato salad mushed up a bit and some slices of cheese from the deli tray.

It was really hard but I survived. Glad your day was better today, HDub!

The first month sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, take it easy - you are still very early out. It can be dangeorous in the heat wit your limited intake, so be very careful.

This is the hardest part, for sure. Try to take it easy. Within a couple of months you'll be chronically freezing and your pants will hang down because they won't fit anymore :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
