Started pre-op diet today....

Recommended Posts

My dr. requires a 2 week pre-op diet of liquids and I can have a salad with lettuce, cucumber, onions, bell peppers and salad spritzer once a day, if I choose.

Technically, I dont have to start the liquid diet until Wednesday since that is technically 2 weeks until my surgery on Sept. 14th.

So I thought "what is 2 days? I can do this."

Yeah, right.

I have had 1 EAS carb control shake so far today and I have been in the kitchen so many times, its not funny. I fed my boys Cereal and it was so hard to not eat with them or nibble from their bowls, lol.

The watermelon sitting in the fridge? I WANTED TO EAT.

ravioli? I WANTED TO EAT

Cinnamon cheerios? I WANTED TO EAT\

the grapes my son was eating? I wanted to ****** them out of his little hands and go hide in a corner, eating them while making an evil laugh at the same time.

The thing is, I dont feel PHYSICALLY hungry, but I feel like my head is asking me why am I not eating or I feel like I should be hungry. This might be harder than I thought and it is DEFINITELY going to be a head thing for me.

I started mine this week also. I'm on day 4 of the diet, and it's killing me. I can have 4 shakes and a cup of broth daily but no food. I have two little ones, and they are always trying to feed me! I have another week and a half until my surgery, but it feels like eternity at this point! I know it's for the best and will be happy I did it in the long run. I am so looking forward to not being hungry constantly after the surgery!

I start my pre op diet at the end of this week and it's just liquids- you know SF Protein Drinks, Water, broth, crystal light, SF Jello, SF Popsicle, and that sort of thing-

oh and someone from the hospital called me today to take my personal info down again and she said not to forget to do a little more liquids the day before surgery so I'll be real hydrated and all-

uhhhhh... that kind of made me laugh..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
