does the hunger take a few days to go away?

Recommended Posts

So I was sleeved just 4 days ago. I think I remember hearing somewhere that it takes a few days for the built-up ghrelin in your system to go away. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I"m on full liquids now, but just 2oz, and I try to make that last 20-30 minutes, but without much success. I basically slept through Breakfast today, so I still have one "meal" that I'll have later on tonight (probably 2 oz of yogurt, just had 2 oz of soup). I managed to get most of a Protein shake down, and I know I need to up that, but they taste so nasty, and having to sip them is like torture. I think maybe if I work harder on that I won't feel hungry.

Just wondering if this is normal. I'm taking it as a sign that I feel better, but I was hoping to not be hungry. It might be partially head hunger, because TV commercials of pizza seem to make my stomach growl.

It does, but often time that growly stomach feeling right after surgery is caused by too much acid in the stomach. Try taking an acid reducer like priolosec and see if that helps.

Yeah, I'm taking a generic Prilosec. I was taking 1/day and my doc told me to up it to 2/day post-op. It may still be some gas moving around in there too. I'll have to try some more Gas-x. And it probably is time for me to focus a bit harder on getting my Protein in. This might be my body's way of telling me its not getting enough protein.

I had lots of belly growling early on and it turned out I needed to up my PPI from once a day to twice. Since then I haven't had any feelings of "hunger" other than in my head. Keep in mind, too, that you're still on liquids so everything is running right through. I bet once you're adding in some solids you'll get full easily.
