Anyone Using HMR Meal Replacements?

Recommended Posts

I have used HMR Meal Replacements shakes (HMR 800) with success in the past. Unfortunately, the weight always came back after I stopped.

I am using them now for my 10 lbs pre-op diet and they are working well.

Just wondering if anyone has used them Post-Op during the liquid or mushy phase? I cannot see why they would be a problem. They do have some thickness and bubbles from blending, but not bad.

Thanks in Advance, Drifter.

I don't know enough about it but it seems to be okay for the thicker liquid phase after surgery. The less air inside the better (gas reasons) so you might not want to whip it up that much after surgery.

Ask your doctor and what ever he/she says is what I'd go with.

Good Luck !!!

I am doing the HMR for my pre-op diet. Is it possible to lose 10 pounds in 14 days on that? I sure hope so, because I have not only NOT lost any weight since I got my surgery date a month ago, but I have actually gained a pound. :help:

fsc- you should be losing weight. The calories you are taking in are set. If you are using the right # of shakes, you WILL loose weight.

Email me off-line and I would be glad to discuss with you. Drifter

Hey Drifter, I did not use HMR but someone in my support group was using it for a preop diet. I guess, from what we were told at the Lapband support group, was that HMR does take the weight off, but most likely it will come back on. We were told that a lot of patients that need to lose quickly for certain types of surgeries take this, as well. One guy lost 200 pounds off of it ( he was 590) and he is now banded. He was allowed to continue HMR for 6 weeks after he was banded to help him continue with his weightloss, but only as a replacement for his 3 shakes a day, not a "meal". He lost another 40 pounds. After the six weeks were up, the Dr. adviced him to stop taking it. So basically instead of having his Protein Drinks, he had the HMR. I'm not sure if i helped you out any, i just thought i'd add my 2 cents in. LOL best of luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
