420gal 1 Posted August 26, 2011 My doctor told me it was to prove to the insurance company and your surgeon that you can change your eating habits and follow a diet plan.
MeMeMEEE 206 Posted August 26, 2011 Yes this surgery is a major change to your lifestyle and they want to make sure you can commit!! If you stick through the 6 months you are probably committed!
wishes 125 Posted August 26, 2011 On a good day, I think insurances requires the 6 months because the want to see the patient's dedication to making the required appointments and making sure the surgery will be successful. Furthermore, I think the six months may be helpful in making sure the patient is showing initiative to lose weight or at least maintain. These are just my thoughts on the matter. On a bad day, I think they just want to see us fail so that they do not have to cover the procedure. P.S. Though the six months may be time consuming and seemingly pointless, it is a good time to reflect on why you want the surgery, gain new habits that will help you in life after surgery, and prepare your family (and kitchen) for how things will change afterward.
