I think I started this journey in spring of 2010 at about 480 pounds. I don't know for sure because I didn't have a scale that could weigh me. Neither did my regular doctor. My insurer required a 12 month diet/coaching program. I got down to a low of 416, but I was up as high as 450 late in the program. After the liver shrinking diet, I was at 420. The day after surgery, I was at 409.

Things have been slow since August 11 in that there were a lot of days where I'd see no movement or maybe even a pound or two of increase. I didn't let it get me down because I'm getting smaller even if I'm not seeing scale movement. That changed today. I just stepped on the scale and saw:

398

It is doubtful I have weighed less than this in my adult life. I haven't known what I weighed since being a teenager and getting up past the 350 that the doctor-style scales register. I feel great. I'm so happy I had this surgery, and I hope all the rest of my August teammates feel this type of satisfaction. There's a long way to go, but I'm getting a good start.

Congrats!!! All the little milestones are great, but when we can actually SEE the weight loss on the scale, it makes a huge difference!! Keep up the good work! biggrin.gif

Thanks everybody. I was a bit down for a while because it seemed like I was stuck at 388 for a long time, but the stall has been broken. I went to 385 and as of this morning am down to 382! I love downward progress. :)

Hey there JimmyJames! Love the name BTW... that's my Dad's name. :)

Anyhow, I just wanted to pop in here and say WOW CONGRATULATIONS!!! You certainly deserve it! Weight loss is so difficult, if it weren't everyone would be skinny. Keep on the right track, and don't worry about the fluctuations. It happens with most of us. It certainly did to me, and well... I'm living proof that doesn't stop someone from becoming who they have always dreamed they'd become.

Many blessings, and cheers to the rest of your journey!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
