high blood pressure and low pulse

Recommended Posts

I've been off blood pressure meds since the day of surgery. For the first few weeks post op I checked it first thing every morning, and my numbers were stellar. Today I had this weird room spin experience. I went to see the school nurse where I teach, and my blood pressure was high again for the first time post op. It was 137/94 but my pulse was 60. After school I went to my dr's office for a blood pressure check, and it was 137/112. She tried again, and it was 136/98 and my pulse was 68. The nurse recommended I check it again at home and if it was still high to take my blood pressure med. It was high at home, so I took my meds. A couple of hours later, I checked it again. It was down to 126/86 but my pulse was only 51. I set up an appt with my PCP for tomorrow at 9, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this?? I'm more than a little concerned. :(

That's an odd response from your dr unless your are a professional athlete or something. I've done a lot of reading and the things that keep coming up are bradycardia (which could require a pacemaker). hypothyroidism, and sleep apnea. I have sleep apnea but I'm on a cpap so??? I have no idea.

i am actually having the something simular. I was also off my meds for like 6 months, then my bottom number creeped up and I was put back on, BUT I am having episodes of rapid heart beat. I was also told the same, check pulse and bp and home and call if the heart rate remained high???? I asked what could cause this and the doc said Stress, which I am under a ton of right now or I have a family history of tachycardia. I refuse to use tranqulizers so I made an appointment to see see a cardiologist. It seems these day every doctor has his or specialty and they only focus on that. If the cardio guy clears me or puts me a med I will be happy with his answer but I am not leaving it with the General practitioner or Primary Care doc to decide. We need to be proactive in health care these days. I did not go through all this weight loss and fitness to die of a heart problem!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
