So basically my surgeon told me I was fat and have done nothing to lose the weight and really does not have a good bedside manner. I tried explaining to him that I've been on weight watchers and have lost some weight but the problem I'm having is I am not eating enough calories because there's not enough food so my body is storing which is bad and he basically laughed at me..... He informed me that it is required that I lose 20 pounds before my surgery... They did not have my surgery date yet but we are hoping for March the problem with that is my insurance does not allow my BMI to fall below 40 and by losing the 20 pounds my BMI will be below 40....

I would request a new surgeon but he is the head of the department so I figure I'm in the best hands even though his bedside manner stinks

Two things I have worked in the medical field for 20+ yrs. most surgeons don't have the best bed side manors. But, trust me the ones that are really bad with their manors are usually the best in what they do. Usually once they do their job surgical wise and u are doing well they manors change almost 180. If you really feel uneasy about this physician then u could look into going somewhere else different dr. I had mine at Brigham women's in boston mass. I had dr Shikora his manor in the beginning was alright but, as of last Thursday amazing. Love him! Just something to think about.

I agree with this. I also work with doctors who have the bedside manner of a rock. She just seemed so uneasy with his manner and that she had to lose 20lbs prior. And your right, if they do the surgery to the best they can, then what can we complain about? But this is not an elective tonsillectomy, it's a big life changing decision. And I know that if I was uncomfortable with my surgeon (dr gee at MGH) then I would probably look into switching.

I've heard great things about Brigham! When were you sleeved??
