I am being sleeved in just about 2 weeks and i am not sure how much help i am going to need afterwards. We have no family here and my husband, who is an amazing dad, will have to juggle our 4 year old twins. Should i have my brother come in (from out of state) and help out? Thanks!

The only help you will need is someone to go and do all the shopping for you when u return home after the operation. All going well, you will be able to walk from the first day. The draining tube will be quite annoying, but you will be able to do everything on your own. You will most probably not have much pain. I wish you all the best!!!

You will not be able to pick them up for a few days, but every surgery and person is different. I had a very good experience, but if your is a bit rougher you might want the help.

Hey! I have 3 year old twins, a 4 year old and a 10 year old that Dad will be in charge of as well. My surgery date is on 9-22-11. I'm glad you brought up the subject. I will watching to see what is said. I can't wait to see what he does with the girls hair, lol ,or if our clothes survive his laundering.I do plan on getting a housekeeper for a day.

I have not had VSG surgery yet, but I did have another major surgery when I had no family around and my child was 4. My husband could only take 1 day off, so my mom came from overseas to help. I made sure my house was clean, laundry was done and the fridge was full before going to the hospital.

Since you have no idea how you will heal it depends on how many days your husband is taking off work and if the children will be in Kindergarten/Preschool during the day.

Like the previous poster said, you might want to consider having a cleaning crew come in once during your first week post-op and/or a babysitter for a few hours to keep them busy and give you some peace. I remember asking my mom to take my hyperactive daughter to the park so I could get some quiet time.

Maybe I am a wimp or something but a day or two ago I read on this website how someone was scrubbing bath tubs & doing laundry one week out. That is not something I would do. I have had surgery many times and I tend to "pamper" myself by allowing sufficient time to heal & take care of my needs with no guilt or worries. Best wishes!

I think it all depends on how strong of a person you are and how much you want to do for yourself. All my husband did for me was drive me home from the hospital. I did everything for myself from the minute I got home because I wanted to.

I made my own drinks, took my showers alone, changed my clothes, everything. If you want to do it, you can!

He did walk outside with me, just in case I fell, but that is about it.

Then again, I don't have kids, that might be a little different, but all the stuff for yourself, do what you can alone. It will just make you stronger!!!

WOW..mom of twins,, ... if you have family willing to help and take care of the twins for a bit, to me I would take the help!!!

You can take care of yourself, even reading the other post pretty much all agree you will be fine taking care of yourself ,, but... you are going to be tired and trying to recover from a major surgery... Kids are going to be kids, they are still going to scream, fight, want attention, want thier meals, spill the drink on the floor...whatever... To me, it would be comforting to know I can go lay down for 2 hours and my brother could watch the twins while I rest. Take the help !

How did you like Dr. Pleatman? Would you recommend him to others for a VSG?

Hate is a strong word. Kids can make you crazy at times but there is no greater love than the love of a child. Yes, they hate you from age 15-25, but after that, it's another renewed, kinder, stronger, more appreciative love that comes back to you. Don't knock it until you try it. I too had just dogs for ten years before a child, there is absolutely no comparison.

probably not. I thought i was gonna need help w a 2 yr old, but, it hasnt been bad. You should be up and about when you get home, just it hurts to bend and pick things up, your kids can help you w that! As long as your husband doesnt mind cooking and cleaning for the next 2 weeks, you should be fine. Pain pills work wonders! My daughter sits on my lap, but, i cant pick her up for 4 weeks. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
