Two weeks and very happy

Recommended Posts

I have been telling everyone that I had my sleeve done on August 9th and I am doing great. Well I saw my doctor today for my two week post op and I am doing better than great. I know this will sound crazy but he released me to eating anything I can tolerate as of today. I did become lactose intolerant after the 1st week and was told to go ahead to stage 2 soft foods at that time. I did great on the soft foods. When the doctor asked me how I was feeling and how I was tolerating my soft foods I told him it was going great. He also wanted to be sure I was not having any problems with my bowels and I assured him that was fine too. After talking and my examine he said I have progressed faster than he ever expected from any of his patients and said he sees no reason to restrict my diet. WOW I was shocked but elated.

Crazy as this sounds I feel like a brand new person, being given a new lease on life.

I lost 6 lbs in two weeks and the doctor was really happy with that. I am 59 years old, 4' 10 " tall and weighed in at 175 at my surgery. I am not what you call extremely heavy but I have lots of medical issues that created the need for this surgery. High Blood pressure, sleep Apnea, spinal stenosis, hip joint degeneration, arthritis in both knees, just to name a few. I was classified as disabled by SS in 2008 and I hate that I can't enjoy life like I should. I have tried every diet out on the market and then some and nothing helps, I had my thyroid radiated as it was not working and that didn't help with the weight issues at all.

The weight has been pulling me down physically and emotionally. When I found out about the sleeve I was so glad to know there was finally something that might help me.

I have a total of 50 lbs to lose and I am just glad this surgery is available to help when nothing else did. I am so looking forward to getting healthy again. This is going to be my chance to enjoy life again.

Thanks for listening.

That is great! I am 4'10" too and I had been 180 for most of my adult life. After I had my baby I developed hypothyroid and shot up to 207! I'm 10 days out and I've lost 19 lbs! I can't believe I am back in the 180s again! I never thought I would be so happy with that.

That is really great...I understand I had to have my thyroid radiated for similar conditions. It makes it nearly impossible to get the weight off. Thank Heavens for the sleeve. Keep up the good work.

You are SO right. 5 pounds look like 10 when you are short. I am amazed every morning when I have lost a pound or two. I haven't started doing any real walking yet because I am still so tired after a day of work. As the weight comes off and I get to solid foods I really hope I can get back into walking.

SHORTIES UNITE!!! biggrin.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
